MLB Winter Meetings: Trea Turner and the 5 biggest deals in the last 10 years

The 2022 MLB Winter Meetings officially got underway on Sunday night. Fred McGriff was selected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. The Winter meetings are the most exciting event in baseball. Some of the biggest names in the game have changed teams at these meetings.

The Royals are the team that helped shape the mid-2010s success.

Royals acquired pitchers James Shields and Wade Davis and infielder Elliot Johnson.

The 2012 Winter Meetings saw the Tampa Bay Rays trade Wil Myers to the Kansas City Royals. The deal won two American League pennants and a World Series title for Kansas. Wil Davis was a key member of the Royals' dominant bullpen. Jake Odorizzi left the Rays after the 2017 season.  Mike Montgomery and Patrick Leonard didn't do much for the team. They were traded to San Diego Padres.

Chris Sale will join the Boston Red Sox.

Red Sox acquired pitcher Chris Sale from the Yankees.

Chris Sale was traded to the Chicago White Sox for Yoan Moncada, Luis Alexander Basabe, Michael Kopech and Victor Diaz. Boston won the 2018 World Series. Mon cada received AL MVP votes in 2019. Kopesch has shown flashes of brilliance in recent years. The White Sells never had a winning season in the last five seasons. They never even reached the 80-win plateau.

Dansby Swanson is coming back to the MLB.

The Braves have acquired Dansby Swanson, Ender Inciarte and Aaron Blair.

Arizona Diamondbacks drafted Dansby Swanson first overall in June 2015. They traded him to the Atlanta Braves as part of a package at the MLB Winter Meetings. Arizona also got pitchers Shelby Miller and Gabe Speier. Miller was an All-Star in 2015, but he played in just 29 games for Arizona. Speer came to Atlanta after being traded by the Detroit Tigers.

Trea Turner is moving to DC.

Nationals acquire infielder Trea Turner and pitcher Joe Ross.

Rays acquired Steven Souza, Jake Bauers, Travis Ott and Burch Smith, and catcher Rene Rivera.

Trea Turner was traded to the Washington Nationals at the 2014 MLB Winter Meetings. He spent six and a half seasons in Washington. Turner finished second in the National League Rookie of the Year voting in 2016.

Trea Turner helped the Washington Nationals win the World Series in 2019. He moved to the Los Angeles Dodgers at the trade deadline. Turner is a free agent and is expected to sign a new contract during the MLB Winter Meetings. Myers became a power bat with the Padres. Bauers spent one season with Rays and was traded to Cleveland Guardians.

The Chicago Cubs signed a six-year, $155 million contract with left-handed pitcher Jon Lester at the 2014 MLB Winter Meetings. The team won their first World Series in nearly 110 years. The signing is the biggest Winter Meeting move in the last 10 years, and it's also the most expensive. It's the third move on this list. They are also Kris Bryant, Javier Baez and Joe Maddon.
