Monte-Carlo 2023: Huesler vs Munar Tennis Prediction & Pick

TennisSection previews the 2023 Monte-Carlo Masters first-round match featuring Marc-Andrea Huesler vs Jaume Munar on Sunday, April 9, 2023.

Huesler vs Munar Match Preview

The two unseeded players, Marc-Andrea Huesler and Jaume Munar will battle for a spot to face Andrey Rublev in the next round of the 2023 Monte-Carlo Masters. Who will prevail?

Marc-Andrea Huesler broke the ATP top 50 in mid-February, largely due to his awesome work in the second half of last season where he won a maiden ATP title in Sofia. He is a lowly 9-10 in 2023. Worryingly for him, Huelser’s clay-court campaign started over a week ago at the Mexico City Challenger where he lost in the round of 16 to Federico Gaio. It could just be the kind of result that will inspire Jaume Munar to inflict further damage to the Swiss who is in desperate need to steady the ship once again.

Jaume Munar, for his part, has a lot in common with Marc-Andrea Huesler ahead of their clash at the Monte-Carlo Masters. The Spaniard has also lost 10 matches this season, and lost to an Italian too in his last outing (lost to Andrea Vavassori), in the round of 16 in Marrakech. He has previously only won one main draw match at the Principality in two visits.

Huesler vs Munar Prediction and Pick

Marc-Andrea Huesler and Jaume Munar have not played each other on the ATP Tour, with this first-round match at the Monte-Carlo Masters being their first meeting. After last year’s breakthrough run on Tour, Huesler was expected to continue his climb on the ATP rankings. But he has been shockingly below par this season, losing five matches in a row at one point in March. The Swiss lefty is still a decent clay-court player having posted some great results on the surface on the Challenger Tour, but right now, if you were to choose between these two on who was likely to grind out a result on the dirt, it would be the Spaniard.
