My big Kentucky Derby day blow-out

Rhea is coming out of retirement to write occasional pieces about horse racing. She's a big fan of the Kentucky Derby. Her mother's side of her family are all horse race enthusiasts. She was disappointed by the fact that the race she was watching was over in a heartbeat. Rhea's mother never went to a race until middle age. The Preakness Stakes was held on May 21 and the Belmont Stake took place on June 11.

This year, Rita organized a Ladies’ Kentucky Derby Day party. Rita and her daughter were going to place bets on the horse racing. They prepared traditional food and drinks. The party was a success. It was organized by Rita, Kathy, Barbara and Rita's daughter. There was no dress or fancy hat. Barbara was acting as a bookie. She dealt with the alcohol. Kathy prepared the traditional spread. Katie prepared a spread with shrimp cocktail. Ricky prepared Pimento Cheese Spread. A bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken was on table. All the guests were in good spirits. Their hats were fancy. Some of them didn't own anything fancy enough.
