NASCAR: Indianapolis race not being broadcast on USA

For the first time since the first weekend in July, a NASCAR Cup Series race is set to be shown live on NBC as opposed to USA Network.

NASCAR is back at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for what may be the third and final road course race at the track before a potential return to the oval for the traditional Brickyard 400 next year — and what may be the final IndyCar/NASCAR doubleheader weekend for the foreseeable future.

Sunday’s Verizon 200 at the Brickyard is set to be the first Cup Series race broadcast on NBC as opposed to USA Network since the inaugural street race in Chicago, Illinois back on Sunday, July 2.

USA Network took over as the alternative NBCUniversal-owned network during NBC’s portion of the broadcast schedule following the shutdown of NBC Sports Network at the end of 2021.

The first two NASCAR Cup Series races following the switch from Fox to NBC were shown live on NBC itself.

But five straight races since then have been shown on USA Network, beginning with the race at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sunday, July 9 and culminating with the race at Michigan International Speedway this past Monday, August 7.

This Sunday afternoon’s 82-lap race around the 13-turn, 2.439-mile (3.925-kilometer) Speedway, Indiana road course is the antepenultimate race on the regular season schedule.

DraftKings Sportsbook, which is offering fans an instant $150 for betting $5, lists Joe Gibbs Racing’s Martin Truex Jr. as the +400 favorite to win.

Next Sunday afternoon’s race at Watkins Glen International is set to be shown on USA Network, while the following Saturday night’s regular season finale at Daytona International Speedway is set to be shown on NBC.

The first four races of the four-round, 10-race playoffs are set to be broadcast live on USA Network, while the final six are set for NBC. In total, 10 of the 20 races on NBC’s portion of the broadcast schedule are on NBC, while the other 10 are on USA Network.
