NBA 2K24 prediction: What will be Victor Wembanyama's rookie rating?

NBA fans are getting excited for the 2023-2024 NBA Season to get underway, however there may be no fans more excited than San Antonio Spurs fans. Victor Wembanyama was taken as the first pick overall in the 2023 NBA Draft and is one of the most hyped up rookies since Lebron James made his way into the NBA. We know for sure that Victor Wembanyama will be a playable athlete for the San Antonio Spurs in NBA 2K24, but we do not know what his rookie rating will be as of yet.

Victor Wembanyama’s performance during the NBA 2K24 Summer League

When comments are made about a rookie prospect that states that a talent of this nature hasn’t come into the NBA since Lebron James made his debut, eyes begin to widen largely. That is a massive statement and statements that do not get throw around very often. The 19-year-old from France is said to be a generational talent. Wembanyama is 7′ 3.5″ tall and is such a skilled shooter. He can do everything from making long range baskets, getting to the paint to get easy dunks, and his defensive skill is truly a sight to behold. When you are that young and possess all of those natural gifts, it is hard to be overlooked.

Victor Wembanyama got his first look in NBA action with the San Antonio Spurs during the NBA 2K24 Summer League. Through his first two games, Wembanyama compiled 36 points, 20 rebounds, eight blocks and three assists on 41% shooting from the floor. In total, he played about 54 minutes.

The San Antonio Spurs announced that they would be shutting down Victor Wembanyama for the remainder of the NBA 2K24 Summer League. They have seen all they have from their generational talent and they are going to use the remaining time to keep their eyes peeled for other future talent that they can add to their roster. They already know that Victor Wembanyama is a lock to play on opening night.

Potential NBA 2K24 rookie rating for Victor Wembanyama

A playable athlete for the San Antonio Spurs is a lock. However, the question now becomes as to what rating will Victor Wembanyama receive for this rookie year?

The record for the highest overall rookie in an NBA 2K video game currently belongs to the New Orleans Pelican’s superstar, Zion Williamson. Zion was given a whopping 81 overall in NBA 2K20. For a player who has never stepped foot into the NBA at that time, an 81 overall just spoke volumes about how talented Zion is.

Ronnie 2K (Ronnie Singh) is the Digital Marketing Director for 2K Games. Ronnie 2K was asked about his thoughts on what he thinks Victor Wembanyama’s rookie rating would be and he stated that he “should” end up being the highest rated rookie of all time. With those words coming from someone who is so closely related to NBA 2K24, I say the chances are extremely high.

Zion Williamson is an extremely talented player, but Victor Wembanyama has a much higher ceiling than Zion does and with that being said, it only makes sense that Victor Wembanyama will set a new rookie overall ratings record. One that could stand for quite a while.

Obviously, NBA 2K24 can’t get overly ridiculous with a rookie overall rating. After all, Wembanyama is still a rookie and has never played in an official NBA game. However, I see Wembanyama breaking the rookie overall rating record by quite a bit. I would not be shocked to see Wembanyama be given an 83 or 84 overall rating.

An 83 or 84 overall rookie rating would speak volumes and be very respectable for a rookie of his caliber. If NBA 2K24 does grant Victor Wembanyama a rating this generous, it would be hard to see any other rookies in future NBA 2K games pass this rating.
