NBA best bets today (Prediction for Ja Morant, Heat-Hornets on Sunday)

Sunday’s NBA slate gets started with the Charlotte Hornets and Miami Heat facing off at 1 p.m. EST, but we have just four games in total to bet on.

With key players potentially sitting out the second leg of a back-to-back in the Milwaukee Bucks-New Orleans Pelicans and Los Angeles Clippers-Cleveland Cavaliers matchups, I have just two plays in the two early games on Sunday.

We’re looking at a side in the Miami matchup as well as a value prop for Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant.

Let’s get back to our winning ways to kick off the week:

NBA best bets record to date

NBA best bets today

  • Miami Heat -6 (-110) vs. Charlotte Hornets
  • Ja Morant UNDER 16.5 Assists and Rebounds (-105)

Miami Heat -6 (-110) vs. Charlotte Hornets

Don’t look now, but the Heat are getting hot, winning seven of their last 10 games and three straight heading into Sunday’s game with the Hornets.

Charlotte is one of the worst teams at home in the NBA, going 6-16 straight up and just 5-11 ATS as home underdog this season.

Miami has struggled ATS in the 2022-23 campaign, but the team has also dealt with a ton of injuries. The Heat should have their full rotation available for this game, and I’m shocked they’re only laying six points.

The Heat dominated the Hornets in their last meeting, winning by 17. The key in this game comes on the defensive end, since both of these teams rank in the bottom five in the league in offensive rating.

Erik Spoelstra’s squad is fourth in the league in defensive rating while the Hornets clock in at No. 27. Fade Charlotte at home until it starts covering as a dog.

Ja Morant UNDER 16.5 Assists and Rebounds (-105)

Yes, Ja Morant had a triple-double in his last game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, but this is a gross overreaction to that performance.

In his previous 11 games, Morant has failed to clear 16.5 rebounds and assists in any of them, averaging 7.6 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game over that stretch.

On the season, Morant is averaging 8.1 assists and 5.6 rebounds per game (13.7 total). Morant has cleared 16.5 rebounds and assists in just eight of his 41 games and four of those games were triple doubles.

The Indiana Pacers are not a great defensive team, but with a near double-digit spread in this game and the Grizzlies at home, Morant may not need to play a full complement of minutes on Sunday either.

Unless you think Ja goes for a triple-double again, the UNDER is the play on this prop.
