NC teams, venues now want their own sports gambling licenses
Supporters of legalizing online sports gambling are confident they have the votes to pass a bill this session. Last year's bill failed by a single vote on the House floor. The teams want eight of 12 operator licenses available in the state to be allocated to them. Online sports betting market is dominated by several brands. FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM and Caesars account for nearly 90% of market share in states with legalization. Virginia collected about $43 million tax revenue through the end of November from sports gaming. More than half of it came in three months after a law change limited how much companies could deduct for bonuses and promotions used to attract new users.
