New York Mets 2023 Season Odds, Props, and Futures

The New York Mets made a shake-up to their roster in the winter. Still, it should not have a major impact on the New York Mets season odds because of the way they retooled and reloaded.

For a team with the payroll that they had and the talent they had, it was not surprising to see the Mets finish tied atop the MLB standings in the National League East. What was a surprise was it was the Philadelphia Phillies, one of the MLB teams below them in the standings by 14 games or more, who represented the NL in the World Series.

But new Mets owner Steve Cohen has spent, and spent, and spent money to improve the depth of his team, and it has increased the New York Mets season odds as they hope to win a World Series.

Change Of Cards

One of the surprising moves was to let ace Jacob deGrom walk in free agency. DeGrom was terrific as one of the best pitchers in baseball, as his New York Mets player stats showed over nine seasons with an 82-57 record, 2.52 ERA, and 1,607 strikeouts.

Instead of the 34-year-old, the Mets signed Justin Verlander, 40, with the hope that he would deliver the Mets both health at the top of their rotation alongside Max Scherzer, and wins in October. Verlander’s MLB player stats are incredible, with a 244-133 record, a 3.23 ERA, and 3,198 strikeouts in 17 seasons.

A change in aces alongside Scherzer may be what the doctor ordered, or at least Cohen, who prescribed money to spend despite taxes coming his way.

Needed Depth

The Mets added two key pieces that will help make them popular among MLB picks. They needed a starting catcher, so the Mets signed Omar Narvaez to give them depth with youngster Francisco Alvarez and veteran Tomas Nido. New York also signed veteran outfielder Tommy Pham, who may platoon, be a part of offense/defense substitutions or even get a starting role.

Adding veterans who have been on playoff teams certainly gives the Mets more opportunities should they have players landing on the MLB injury report with regularity.

Season Odds

Before the MLB gamesget underway at the end of March, it is worthwhile to check where oddsmakers think the Mets stack up against their rivals and other Major League Baseball teams. Here is a look at the New York Mets season odds and props.

As expected, the Mets are the favorites in the NL East at +130. But the Atlanta Braves (+135) and Phillies (+325) are not far behind.

But the Mets also have the best odds to win the National League pennant at +375. Three teams are between +400 and +425. Those include the Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers, and the San Diego Padres.

The Mets (+800) are tied with the Dodgers for the best World Series odds. Only the Houston Astros (+650) and New York Yankees (+750) are ahead of them.

They are also in line for some regular season awards, with first baseman Pete Alonso in a tie for seventh with +1400 odds to win National League Most Valuable Player. He hit .271 with 40 home runs, 131 RBIs – which led the league – and 95 runs scored. His offensive impact was huge for the New York Mets team stats.

Alvarez, the rookie catcher, is tied for sixth-best odds to win NL Rookie of the Year at +1000. Meanwhile, Verlander is tied for second in NL Cy Young futures at +600, and Scherzer is fourth at +800.

What To Expect

Clearly, the expectations are high for the Mets to win a lot of games. They should do that with the MLB schedule fairly balanced, though they are in a tough division. Surprisingly, the over/under for the Mets’ wins in a season is 94 ½, with -120 odds on the over and -110 on the under.

It feels safe to go over by a few games because of the depth that they have.

They hope to make the playoffs in consecutive seasons for the first time since 2015-16 and win their first World Series title since 1986.
