NHL parlay picks February 20: Bet on Penguins to beat Islanders

A full day of hockey awaits with six NHL games on Monday’s schedule.

The pregame narrative: The Pittsburgh Penguins are slumping but we’re betting on a breakthrough against the New York Islanders. The Philadelphia Flyers and Calgary Flames can’t buy a save, putting the over firmly in play for their contest. Lastly, we’re taking the Seattle Kraken on an alternate puck line against the San Jose Sharks.

NHL odds as of 8:42 a.m. on 02/20/2023.

NHL parlay picks

Parlay: Penguins moneyline + Flyers vs. Flames over 6 + Kraken +1.5 (+319)

Penguins moneyline (-134): Pittsburgh lost 5-4 to New York on Friday, but we’re expecting some revenge between these Metropolitan division rivals.

Positive results have been infrequent for the Penguins with three losses over their last four. The underlying numbers suggest they’re holding their own, though. The Pens rank a respectable 14th in expected goals percentage (52.83%) and 16th in team save percentage (.900) over the last week, according to Natural Stat Trick.

That’s more than can be said about the Islanders. They own the sixth-worst expected goals percentage (42.31%) and are 22nd in team save percentage (.886) across the last seven days. The Isles are also a rough 11-14-4 on the road with seven losses in their last eight away games.

Pittsburgh, meanwhile, is a solid 15-7-4 at PPG Paints Arena this season.

Other parlay picks

Flyers vs. Flames over 6 goals (-108): A John Tortorella vs. Darryl Sutter coaching duel may not scream high-scoring affair, but the recent play between the pipes for each team has us expecting exactly that.

The Flyers own the worst team save percentage in the NHL (.774) over the last week. They’ve allowed four goals or more in three consecutive games, totalling a whopping 16 goals against in those contests.

Not too far behind them, however, is the Flames. They have the second-lowest team save percentage (.841) in the league across the last seven days.

The over on this total has hit or pushed in eight of Calgary’s last 10 games.

Kraken +1.5 (-420): Seattle’s a road favourite against San Jose, but we’re teasing them to underdogs.

Home-ice advantage isn’t something that applies to the Sharks. They own the worst home record (5-14-7) this season, losing six of their last seven at SAP Center. They also place a brutal 28th in expected goals percentage (41.99%) over the last week.

The Kraken are a very good road team. They’re an impressive 17-8-3 away from Climate Pledge Arena and have covered this number in back-to-back road outings.

Seattle sits fifth in team save percentage (.927) across the last seven days.
