NHL parlay picks Oct. 17: Bet on Cale Makar and Victor Hedman at +387

We're targeting two player props and a moneyline bet from Tuesday's nine-game NHL slate for a three-leg parlay today.

The pregame narrative: The Vancouver Canucks are off to a hot start and should grab another win on the road against the Philadelphia Flyers. Then, we're expecting two Norris Trophy winners — Victor Hedman and Cale Makar — to bring the noise on offence.

NHL oddsas of 9:18 a.m. on 10/17/2023.

NHL parlay picks

Parlay: Canucks moneyline + Hedman over 0.5 points + Makar over 2.5 shots (+387)

Canucks moneyline (-141): Vancouver started its season with a home-and-home against Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers and won both games, outscoring their Pacific Division rivals 12-4.

Now they head across the continent to take on the Philadelphia Flyers, who seem destined for a bottom-feeding season.

Philly is 1-1 through two games but it lost 51 of 82 games (62.15%) last season and had the seventh-worst record in the NHL.

There isn't much high-end talent on the Flyers' roster and we can't see them outpacing a Canucks team that's firing on all cylinders.

Other picks

Hedman over 0.5 points (-130): This is a play we'd recommend betting as a standalone. Hedman has registered a point in each of Tampa Bay's three games, with five total points in that span.

He's leading the team with 24:08 of ice time and has taken the most shots (nine) of any defenceman on the roster. Hedman will also benefit from playing the Buffalo Sabres tonight.

Buffalo is off to a 0-2 start and has given up eight goals in those games. The Sabres also allowed at least three goals in each of their last five preseason games.

Makar over 2.5 shots (-167): Makar is the best defenceman in the NHL and he's shown that through two games.

The 2022 Norris Trophy winner had a goal and five shots in both of the Colorado Avalanche's contests this season while averaging 25:04 of ice time.

He cleared this line in five of six games against the Seattle Kraken last postseason, too.
