The Montreal Canadiens were one of the founding teams of NHL. The franchise was established in 1909. Montreal is one the most successful NHL franchises.

Montreal Canadiens played their home games at the Montreal Forum for 70 seasons. The Forum was built in 1924 and is considered one of the most storied buildings in the history of hockey. Since March 1996, the team has played all home matches at Bell Centre.

Montreal Canadiens have had many great players in their history. Maurice Richard was the first player to score 50 goals in a season and 500 goals overall. Howie Morenz won three Stanley Cups with the team and his jersey number 7 was retired in 1937. Toe Blake won eight Stanley Cup championships with Montreal between 1955 and 1968. Scotty Bowman won five Stanley cups between 1973 and 1979.

The Montreal Canadiens have a few rivalries with NHL teams. Their biggest rivals are the Boston Bruins and the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Canadiens also have an apparent rivalry with the Buffalo Sabres. Quebec Nordiques were a fierce provincial rival of the Canadiens.

Montreal Canadiens have won 24 Stanley Cups in their history. They have 65 players in the Hockey Hall of Fame. Guy Carbonneau is the most recently inducted player.

The Montreal Canadiens had a poor season in 2021-22. They won the least amount of games in the NHL.
