NHL trade odds on total deadline day deals: Leafs remain active, Kane and Meier still available

NHL trade deadline day is March 3 and teams are busy trying to improve their rosters.

The latest: The list of players available ahead of the trade deadline is shrinking quickly with stars like Bo Horvat, Vladimir Tarasenko, and Ryan O’Reilly already switching squads. There are still a number of key talents on Chris Johnston’s Big Board that will continue to be the centre of trade discussions in the lead-up to deadline day.

NHL deadline day trades

Over 11.5 trades (-110), Under 11.5 trades (-110)

If past deadlines are any indicator of what to expect on deadline day, bettors should be running to put down on the over.

Like anybody else, NHL general managers typically spring into action when the time to do so is running out. The past five trade deadlines have yielded plenty of trades with each year comfortably surpassing this total.

The massive roster sizes of NHL teams help create plenty of movement with a sizeable portion of trades seeing squads swap minor-league depth.

One reason someone may want to wager on the under this year, though, is because of the transactions that have already occurred.

Plenty of big fish are off the market with Horvat going to the New York Islanders, Tarasenko to the New York Rangers, and O’Reilly to the Maple Leafs. Still, the volume of trades from previous trade deadlines is too high to ignore.

There also seem to be plenty of buyers and sellers still in the market, with the Maple Leafs reportedly looking to make another move, Patrick Kane potentially deciding to move on from the Chicago Blackhawks and Timo Meier’s name still swirling around trade discussions.

Bettors and fans should expect another busy deadline day.
