North Carolina vs. Georgia Tech Prediction, Picks & Odds: Can Anyone Slow Down RJ Davis?

Our North Carolina vs. Georgia Tech prediction based on the best college basketball odds believes RJ Davis will keep his All-American season going while taking advantage of a lowly Yellow Jackets defense.

The first season with Damon Stoudamire at the helm has been much of the same in Atlanta with Georgia Tech (9-11) off to a rough start. The Yellow Jackets are 1-8 since Dec. 24 and now must deal with a North Carolina (17-3) program with National Championship aspirations, while creeping up the March Madness odds.

The Tar Heels are surging this season behind the play of guard RJ Davis and even in a close call against Florida State last week, Hubert Davis’ squad managed to win by seven points. North Carolina has won 10 straight games behind Davis and it doesn’t look like Georgia Tech will be able to slow him down.

Here is our best North Carolina vs. Georgia Tech prediction and our college basketball picks (odds via our best March Madness betting sites; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

While Purdue’s Zach Edey remains the favorite by the Wooden Award odds, North Carolina’s RJ Davis is one of the few who has a chance to push him. Davis has been the catalyst for one of the best offenses in college basketball this season, leading the Tar Heels with 21.2 points per game.

Behind Davis, North Carolina is putting up 83.1 points per game, 21st in the country, and sits 14th in adjusted offensive efficiency despite playing the 11th toughest defensive schedule, per Kenpom. The senior guard has been unstoppable this season and this is a Georgia Tech program that’s had its defense beaten up on all year.

The Yellow Jackets are 205th in adjusted defensive efficiency, second worst in the ACC behind just Louisville. They've been giving up 75.8 points per game this season. Stoudamire’s program has been even worse in ACC play where it’s 2-7 and allowing 81.3 points per game.

Davis is poised to continue the trend of ACC teams lighting up Georgia Tech like it’s a walkthrough. He’s having an all-time season for North Carolina, which says a lot given its rich history, and is coming off a 24-point performance against Florida State and a 36-point game against Wake Forest. He scored at least 21 points in 12 of 20 games this season, and he’s been even better as of late with four games of at least 21 points in his last five outings while shooting 44.4% from 3-point range over that stretch.

North Carolina vs. Georgia Tech best odds

bet365 (-125)

Only three of our best sports betting apps are offering a line on RJ Davis’ point total with bet365 and DraftKings giving us the best value. While -125 isn’t anything to write home about, Davis has been one of the most consistent scorers in college basketball and Georgia Tech’s defense is one of the worst in the ACC.

The Under on Davis’ point total is -105 at both DraftKings and bet365, but with his volume shooting and ability to pull from deep, he’s in position to hurt a Yellow Jackets defense that gives up 7.9 threes per game. Davis averages 15.8 shots per game with 7.3 of them being threes.

North Carolina vs. Georgia Tech odds

With the Tar Heels' dominance and Georgia Tech’s ineptitude, North Carolina opened as a double-digit favorite at most of our best sports betting sites. DraftKings gave UNC the largest edge initially at -11.5, but the line has slowly ticked down.

North Carolina is now -8.5 at most of our best sports betting sites, with just FanDuel offering the Heels -9.5 at -102. North Carolina is 13-7 ATS this season and Georgia Tech is 8-12.

As for the total, with North Carolina’s explosive offense, it opened at 152.5 pretty much everywhere and remains there. North Carolina is 9-10-1 betting the Over this season and the Yellow Jackets are 11-9.
