South Africa are 3/1 favourites for the 2023 Rugby World Cup after winning their first two matches of the tournament

The bookies make holders South Africa favourites for the 2023 Rugby World Cup at 3/1 ahead of Saturday’s pivotal Pool B match against Ireland.

Jacques Nienaber’s team beat Scotland 18-3 in their opening match before completing a comfortable 76-0 victory over Romania.

Springboks the team to beat

Holders South Africa are 3/1 favourites to retain the Webb Ellis Cup, which they lifted in Japan four years ago to become world champions for the second time in their history.

However, the top four countries in the betting – the Springboks, France (16/5), Ireland (7/2) and New Zealand (4/1) – are all on the same side of the draw, meaning that only two can reach the semi-finals.

France’s victory over New Zealand in the opening match of the tournament means they are likely to top Pool A ahead of the All Blacks.

Likewise, South Africa’s match against Ireland in Paris on Sunday should decide the winner of Pool B. Ireland have beaten Romania and Tonga but complete their schedule with a match against Scotland that will be anything but a formality for Andy Farrell’s team.

England, in Pool D, are 12/1 to win the tournament. Having beaten Argentina and Japan already, they face Chile on Saturday and Samoa should be straightforward for Steve Borthwick’s team.

Apart from predicting the overall winners of the cup, there are several other exciting betting markets available with their respective odds, which are listed below.
