Odds to win Sixth Man of the Year 2023

The National Basketball Association’s season is winding down. But there is still plenty to play for, both personally and from a team standpoint. Awards races have yet to be settled, and playoff spots and seeding are still up in the air.

One of the underlying races includes the Sixth Man of the Year odds, which has four players listed for the award. However, it is largely a two-player race. A large portion of the award has to do with team success and the NBA odds of a team moving forward, which has somewhat always been part of awards criteria.

Here is a breakdown of the Sixth Man of the Year odds and each competitor’s case with two weeks left in the NBA’s regular season.

Only four players are listed anymore for the Sixth Man of the Year odds. The frontrunner is young guard Immanuel Quickley of the New York Knicks at -225. Following him is veteran guard Malcolm Brogdon of the Boston Celtics at +150.

The next two players are both longshots. Also, they are worth considering in case something drastic like injuries, poor play, or a team’s collapse factor into awards voting over the last two weeks.

The first is Bobby Portis of the Milwaukee Bucks at +4000. The other is Malik Monk of the Sacramento Kings at +5000.

Here is a breakdown of why each player is worthy of being selected.

Quickley is in his third season after being selected 25th overall in the 2020 NBA Draft out of Kentucky. Quickly is 6 foot 3 and 190 pounds, and he is comfortable playing at either guard position.

He has played in 75 games and started 17 for his team. The Knicks are a team that is 43-33 and sits fifth in the Eastern Conference. The guard received a slight minutes bump in his third year and is up to 14.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game.

He shoots the ball decently well at 44.6% from the field and 36.0% on 3-point shots. He has an offensive rating of 122 and a defensive rating of 115, NBA player stats show.

Brogdon has been a starter his whole career until he joined the Celtics for the 2022-23 season. He was a second-round pick – 36th overall – in the 2016 NBA Draft out of Virginia. He is now 30 years old and stands 6-5, and weighs 229 pounds.

Brogdon is playing the fewest minutes of any season of his career at 25.7 per game but is still averaging a healthy 14.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists off the bench. He is shooting a career-best 44.7% on 3-point shots while also making 48.4% of field goal attempts and 87.6% of free throws.

The Celtics are 52-24 and 2.5 games back of the best record in the league.

The Celtics are chasing the Bucks, who are 54-21 and have the best record in basketball. Portis, a veteran forward, is a big reason why. At 28 years old, Portis is 6-10, 250 pounds, and was selected 22nd in the 2015 NBA Draft out of Arkansas.

He has played in 64 games, starting 20. is averaging 13.8 points and 9.6 rebounds in 26.0 minutes per game. He is converting 49.6% of field goal attempts and is 34.2% on 3-point shots.

Portis brings an energy to the Bucks that few players have over time. His presence is noted on the court, sometimes as an instigator.

It is arguably the best season of Monk’s career, along with his teams’ NBA stats show. Monk, who is just 25, is a 6-3, 200-pound guard who was selected 11th overall in the 2017 NBA Draft out of Kentucky.

It hasn’t been his most efficient year, but he is averaging 13.4 points, 3.8 assists, and 2.6 rebounds in 22.3 minutes per game. Also, he is making 44.4% of field goal attempts and 35.2% of 3-point shots for a Kings team who is 45-30 and third in the West.
