Oilers vs. Avalanche Predictions, Picks & Odds: There’s Goals in Them Hills

A pair of Western Conference elites are set to clash on Tuesday night when the Edmonton Oilers chase that rocky mountain high in Colorado against the Avalanche. Read on for our Oilers-Avalanche prediction based on the best NHL odds.

The Oilers are impossibly hot heading into this matchup, racking up seven straight wins and a 9-1-0 record over their past 10 games. Edmonton is fresh off thrashing the lowly San Jose Sharks 6-1 on Saturday night. Connor McDavid continued his reign of terror, notching a pair of goals and an assist while reaching the 150-point plateau in the process (he’s only the sixth player to record 150 points in a season).

If the Oilers are a raging inferno, the Avalanche are, well, still a pretty big fire. Colorado has rattled off five straight wins and posted an 8-2 record over its past 10 games. The Avalanche narrowly beat the bottom-feeding Anaheim Ducks 5-4 in overtime during their last outing. Nathan MacKinnon scored twice, including the OT winner, while Mikko Rantanen collected four points.

Here is our best Oilers-Avalanche NHL prediction (odds via DraftKings Sportsbook; Pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Oilers vs. Avalanche prediction

Oilers-Avalanche Over 6.5 (-128 via BetMGM)

There will be an embarrassment of offensive riches littering the Ball Arena ice on Tuesday. Colorado boasts a 50-goal scorer (Rantanen), two 100-point players (Rantanen and MacKinnon), and seven players with 40-plus points.

Not to be outdone, Edmonton has a pair of 50-goal scorers (McDavid and Leon Draisaitl), three 100-point players (McDavid, Draisaitl, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins), and five players with at least 40 points.

All of that firepower has been paying dividends for both teams recently. Edmonton is averaging 4.6 goals per game during its seven-contest winning streak, all while scoring at least five goals in four of those matchups. Colorado is averaging 4.8 lit lamps during its five-game winning streak, and the team has combined with opponents to score seven-plus goals in each of those victories.

Based on the recent performances from these offensive juggernauts and Colorado ranking 10th in the league in goals per game while Edmonton is first, the Over on the total should cash easily.

Oilers vs. Avalanche best odds

While there isn’t too much discrepancy between our top NHL betting sites, BetMGM is offering the best line at -128. With cash supporting the Over on 6.5 increasing, the goal total could eventually rise to 7. Snatch this line up while you can.

Oilers vs. Avalanche odds

The goal total is set at 6.5, with the Over paying out anywhere between -128 and -140, while the Under will net you between +110 and +115.
