Ole Miss Schedule Notebook

As previously established, Ole Miss has a pretty tough road slate throughout this coming season. Two weeks in, they'll had a road matchup with a team that will want nothing more than to take down an SEC West program to stake their legitimacy in the college football landscape.

Over the next week or so, we're going to dive into the schedule to see what Ole Miss could be dealing with and how they've fared in recent years given the circumstances. This is not necessarily a season prediction, because as we all know, a lot of things can happen. Alright, now back to Tulane.

Let's get this out of the way first. This is not your father's Tulane team. They're pretty good.

The Green Wave are coming off a 12-win season that concluded with three consecutive top-25 wins, a conference title and a thrilling New Year's Six Cotton Bowl win 46-45 over USC and Caleb Williams of all people.

Although the Rebels have dominated the series with Tulane over the course of the Modern Era (42-28 all-time), the Green Wave rightfully have a high level of expectations with quarterback Michael Pratt back in the fold. Pratt completed 64 percent of his passes for just over 3,000 yards and 27 TD tosses with almost 500 yards and 10 scores on the ground. Despite losing quite a few key playmakers on both sides of the ball, many have given them a chance with preseason top-25 honors. After this past spring period, Tulane checked in at No. 22 in 247Sports' post-spring rankings.

This matchup will be played in New Orleans for the first time since 2012, where Ole Miss pummeled the Green Wave 39-0 at Tulane's old home venue, the Superdome. Now, the Green Wave have their own venue in Yulman Stadium. The stadium is now outdoors and the surface is turf. Combine that with that Gulf South September heat, this will likely be a brutally hot matchup. Ole Miss will be coming off a near sure-fire season opening win while the Green Wave will be coming off a game against South Alabama.

The Rebels won the most recent matchup between these two back in 2021 by a final of 61-21. Should Tulane be able to pull off the win in September, it would be the first against Ole Miss since 1988. There have been 12 matchups between both teams since that last Tulane win.

Before all that, Ole Miss will begin its 2023 campaign inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium against Mercer. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. CT and can be seen on SECN+/ESPN+ or listened to on the Ole Miss Radio Network. Inside the Rebels will be on site to provide updates, notes, facts, observations and more. Head coach Lane Kiffin and select players will be available on the final day of 2023 SEC Media Days, taking the stage Thursday, July 20 in Nashville.
