Pelicans may lack proper amount of respect from 2022-23 title oddsmakers

The New Orleans Pelicans finished the 2021-22 season with a winning record. They won both of their play-in games and forced a playoff series against the Western Conference’s number one seed. DraftKings gives New Pelicans the 15th-best odds of winning the 2023 championship at +3500. The team's growth experienced by a number of key players over the last year will lead to improvement.

The Raptors and Timberwolves have slightly better odds of winning the title than Pelicans.

Toronto Raptors are running back with Otto Porter Jr. as the only new veteran addition. The Raptors lost three of the four playoff games to the 76ers by 15 points or more.

Minnesota added Rudy Gobert this summer. Patrick Beverley, Malik Beasley and Jarred Vanderbilt have lost their defensive grit.

The Pelicans are the favorite to win the NBA title in 2022-23. The Lakers are a riskier bet than the Nets. If the stars align for New Orleans, they could finish higher than either the Mavericks or Nuggets. The Mavericks are not moving the needle higher. Denver is hoping for Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. to perform well.
