Phillies vs. Nationals prediction: MLB odds, pick, best bets

The Phillies are sitting in the driver’s seat to grab one of the NL wild-card spots heading into their matchup Sunday at the Nationals.

Philadelphia will look to Zack Wheeler (9-5, 3.63 ERA) to close out the weekend series with a win, and Washington will give the ball to Trevor Williams (5-7, 5.20 ERA).

Wheeler has been on top of his game over the past two months.

He has allowed three runs or fewer in seven straight starts.

One of those outings came against Washington on Aug. 8, when Wheeler gave up three runs over six innings in a 8-4 Phillies win.

Philadelphia has been a great bet with Wheeler on the mound, going 9-3 in his past 12 starts.

Williams will enter Sunday on the other end of the spectrum.

In his past four starts, he has given up 20 runs in 19 innings of work.

He was roughed up for six runs in just 4 ²/₃ innings and on the losing end on Aug. 8 versus Wheeler.

Expect more of the same Sunday night.

Betting on Baseball?

Current Phillies hitters are batting a robust .322 against Williams in 149 career at-bats.

The Phillies have a big edge on the mound because Wheeler has won four of his past five starts against Washington, by a combined score of 45-10.

Look for him to continue his late-season roll Sunday.
