Picks and Preview for Tennis Tournaments Occurring this Week

Again, we are treated to another exciting week of jam-packed action from the best tennis players on the planet. This week is another full slate of matches, as five different professional tennis tournaments are currently on going. The professional tennis tournaments this week are the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, Abierto Mexicano Telcel, ATX Open, and the Movistar Chile Open.

Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships

The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships is an ATP tournament currently taking place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The tournament, which began on Monday February 27, is currently being played on a hard court outdoor surface and is finishing up the round of 16, with the final match scheduled for Saturday March 4.

The Dubai tournament is filled with top ATP talent, as its competitor list includes #1 ATP ranked Serbian player Novak Djokovic, #6 ATP ranked Russian player Andrey Rublev, and #7 ATP ranked Russian player Daniil Medvedev. My pick for the round of 16 and quarterfinal has to be Andrey Rublev(-267) against #33 ATP ranked Dutch player Botic Van De Zandschulp.

However, my pick to win the tournament remains with the world’s best player, Novak Djokovic(-225). This isn’t the best value pick, but it’s the safest pick as I’m not sure which of his competitors will be able to defeat the Serbian.

Abierto Mexicano Telcel

With action beginning on Monday February 27 on the hard court outdoor surface in Acapulco, Mexico, the ATP Men’s Abierto Mexicano Telcel is well underway, with the round of 16 concluding on Thursday March 2. The Mexican tournament has brought a slew of tough competitors as they continue to duke it out for the chance to play in the final match on Saturday March 4.

The notable competitors at the tournament includes #4 ATP ranked Norwegian player Casper Ruud, #5 ATP ranked American player Taylor Fritz, #10 ATP ranked Danish player Holger Rune, and #15 ATP ranked American player Frances Tiafoe. These men have each won their opening round matches and look to continue their run in the round of 16.

My pick to win their match in the round of 16 has to be #49 ATP ranked American player Brandon Nakashima(+100) over #62 ATP ranked American player Mackenzie McDonald(-105). This is a pretty even matchup, but I think Nakashima has been in better form heading into the match. While there are a few men sharing the odds to win the tournament, my pick to win is Taylor Fritz(+450). The American is fresh off his win at the Delray Open and has been playing some of the best tennis of his career.

ATX Open

The ATX Open, also known as the Austin Open, is a WTA professional tournament currently taking place in Austin, Texas. Being played on a hard court outdoor surface, the tournament is currently in the round of 16 proceedings with a scheduled final on Sunday March 5th.

The ATX Open is filled with fierce competitors, as it includes #21 WTA ranked Polish player Magda Linette, #28 WTA ranked Russian player Anastasia Potapova, and #38 WTA ranked American player Danielle Collins. Although there are a number of fierce competitors the field is wide open after Linette, the tournament favorite, suffered a shocking upset in the first round.

My pick to win their round of 16 matchup is American Danielle Collins(-200) over #75 WTA ranked player American Catherine McNally(+163). Although this is anyone’s match, I like Collins in this American duel as she is probably the best remaining competitor. Continuing with this trend, Collins(+400) is also my pick to win the open. After suffering disappointing defeats in each of her last four tournaments, I expect the American to have a bounceback performance on her way to winning the competition.

Movistar Chile Open

The final competition of the week is the ATP men’s Movistar Chile Open being played on a red clay surface in Santiago, Chile. This serves as the fourth consecutive week of an ATP tournament being held in South America, and we can expect more spectacular play from the competitors. The tournament, which began on Saturday February 25, is currently in the round of 16.

Although not loaded with competition, there are a number of notable competitors, including #18 ATP ranked Italian player Lorenzo Mussetti, #32 ATP ranked Argentinian player Francisco Cerundolo, #35 ATP ranked Argentinian player Sebastian Baez, and #37 ATP ranked Argentinian player Diego Schwatrzman. The tournament is being dominated by the Argentinians who have gone head to head against each other for the past month.

Heading into the round of 16, Franciso Cerundolo(-155) is my pick to win his match against #76 ATP ranked Argentinian player Tomas Martin Etcheverry(+143). Cerundolo has improved over his past few outings and I expect him to continue this run this week as well.

As for my pick to win the whole tournament, I have to go with top-ranked Lorenzo Mussetti(+550). Despite his immense talent, the Italian has struggled immensely in the past few tournaments and has suffered a number of disappointing defeats. After a dominant first round win, Bussetti is in line to enjoy his most successful tournament in months.
