Pirates vs. Giants odds, Picks & Predictions

The Pittsburgh Pirates (26-27) and San Francisco Giants (28-26) will square off on Tuesday evening.

Pittsburgh has endured their struggles following a strong start to the season. They kicked off the season by performing well against the MLB schedule, but they have dropped four of their past five games heading into Tuesday. Most recently, the Pirates were defeated by the Giants 14-4 to open the series.

The Giants have now won four of their past five games after defeating the Pirates on Monday. They are above .500 in the MLB standings and performing better than some people thought they would. The Giants will be one of the more popular MLB picks on Tuesday at home.

First pitch is scheduled for 9:45 PM EST on Tuesday, May 30 at Oracle Park in San Francisco, CA. Let’s take a look at the Pirates vs Giants picks, odds, and analysis for Tuesday’s contest.

These MLB teams are somewhat evenly-matched on paper. Both have their inconsistencies without question, but Tuesday’s game is expected to be more competitive

The odds for the game have yet to be released, but the San Francisco Giants odds will likely lean in their favor. That said, bettors will still want to be sure to check their odds once they are released.

Offensively, these teams have produced similar results. The one area where they are vastly different is in home runs. The Giants rank sixth overall in homers, while the Pirates are just 25th.

Pitching-wise, these MLB teams are also fairly similar from a stats perspective. Before making our official Pirates vs Giants picks, let’s take a look the pitching matchups.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs San Francisco Giants

Location of the game: Oracle Park, San Francisco, CA.

Day & Time: Tuesday, May 30. 9:45 PM EST.

How to watch: MLBN

Johan Oviedo (3-4, 4.70) gets the ball for the Pirates on Tuesday night. Oviedo’s mlb player stats aren’t very impressive. He’s been strong over his past three outings though, pitching at least five innings and surrendering three runs or less in each start.

Oviedo isn’t a pitcher who’s going to record a ton of strikeouts on a consistent basis, but he does feature some strikeout potential. He’s had three games this year that saw him strikeout six or more hitters, including a 10-strikeout game against the St. Louis Cardinals back in April.

The Pirates offense is better than expected but still isn’t the most intimidating group, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see Oviedo perform well in this game.

John Brebbia (2-0, 3.68) is the probable starter for San Francisco. Brebbia has pitched primarily out of the bullpen, not throwing more than two innings in any outings this season. The Giants are likely planning to use an opener in this game.

With some pitchers on the MLB injury report, the Giants will need their bullpen to step up and get the job done in this game with Brebbia leading the charge. Bullpen games can certainly prove to be difficult if an opposing team scores a ton of runs.

There isn’t much else to say about Brebbia since he likely won’t work deep into this game. His job is to give the Giants a couple of good innings and turn the ball over to the bullpen.

It is now time to share our Pirates vs Giants picks.

  • Over/Under: Take the under
  • Moneyline:  Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pittsburgh Pirates schedule, and their pitchers have an advantage in the pitching matchup. Oviedo hasn’t been reliable, but he’s displayed the ability to perform at a high level in certain games. If he can shut down San Francisco’s lineup, the Pirates offense will take care of the rest.

This could be one of those MLB games that is highly competitive, but the Pirates are the best bet for Tuesday.
