Predictions to win the ATP Lyon Open

There are two ATP men’s tournaments on the tennis schedule underway this week, leading up to next week’s French Open. While some of the top players like Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, and Stefanos Tsitsipas are taking the week off, many others are in action in Geneva and Lyon.

Tennis fans can get ready for the French Open by taking a look at the ATP Lyon Open predictions for the clay court event.

British player Cameron Norrie is not only the defending champion at the Lyon Open but he is also the favorite this season. With the No. 2 seed in the draw, Norrie is +375 on the tennis odds to repeat and win in Lyon. Norrie also made the finals of this event in 2021 and has had tons of success on the clay courts of the Parc de la Tete d’Or-Velodrome Georges Preveral.

Norrie is 25-9 on the season, and he won a title on clay in February at the Rio Open. That win propelled him up the rankings as he knocked off Alcaraz in the final, avenging a finals loss from the previous week at the Argentina Open. Norrie was upset early in Monte Carlo but made the round of 16 at the Rome Masters last week, falling to Djokovic in straight sets.

Already into the quarterfinals in Lyon with an easy win No. 4 seed Francisco Cerundolo is the second favorite at +400 behind Norrie. The Argentinian is 10-8 on clay this season with wins over top 10 players Jannik Sinner and Casper Ruud. He reached the quarterfinals in Rome before falling to Ruud after beating Sinner and Gregoire Barrere in three-set matches.

Cerundolo beat Ruud in Barcelona to reach the quarters. He could face Norrie in the semifinals this week, but those making tennis predictions should know that he trounced Norrie 6-3, 6-4 in Monte Carlo last month.

When making ATP Lyon Open predictions, the seeds don’t necessarily matter. Felix Auger-Aliassime is the top seed, but at +550, he has the third-best odds to win the title. The Canadian won’t face a seeded player until at least the semifinals.

However, the 10th-ranked player in the world has been wildly inconsistent in 2023, with an overall record of 12-9. He is 0-2 on clay with losses to players outside the top 40 in his first matches at both the Madrid Masters and Rome Masters, Auger-Aliassime hasn’t won two matches in the same event since Indian Wells in March when he lost to Alcaraz in the quarterfinals.

Jack Draper, Sebastian Baez, and Tommy Paul are other players to keep an eye on when making bets on the ATP Lyon Open predictions.

Draper upset Miomir Kecmanovic to reach the quarterfinals where he will face Cerundolo. An unseeded player, the Brit is 8-5 on the season and is looking for his first ATP title while getting +750 odds.

Baez has two career titles, both on clay. One of those came this season in Cordoba and the No. 6 seed is +850 to win in Lyon. Baez is 12-8 on clay this year, 2-2 in the last two Masters events with a loss to Tsitsipas in Madrid. In the bottom half of the draw, he may have to knock off both Norrie and Cerundolo to make the finals.

Paul hasn’t looked completely healthy lately, and the No. 7 seed is +1000 to win this week. He lost his first match at both the Rome and Madrid Masters, but the American reached the final in Provence on clay before falling to Andy Murray. Much more comfortable on the hard courts, Paul is 3-4 on clay this season and could face Auger-Aliassime in the semifinals.

The other players are all at least +2200 in the tennis odds for this event. American Brandon Nakashima is already into the quarterfinals, where he could face Paul. A win there would put the 21-year-old into the semis as he looks for his first title.

Based off the way these players have performed lately, the winner is likely to come out of the bottom half of the bracket. Auger-Aliassime and Paul aren’t comfortable on clay and it wouldn’t be a big surprise to see an unseeded player like Arthur Fils (+2200) or Nakashima reach the final.

  • The ATP Lyon Open prediction is to bet on both Norrie (+375) and Cerundolo (+400).

Whoever wins their semifinal matchup will be in the driver’s seat to win the last tournament before the French Open
