Predictions to Win the Hamburg European Open

We’re now into the home stretch of the tennis season with three of the four Grand Slams completed and the last of the tennis main events, the US Open, a little more than one month away. While there are ATP and WTA events ongoing in Atlanta, Warsaw, and Lausanne, the most notable event this week is the Hamburg European Open. The men’s draw includes top players like Alexander Zverev, Casper Ruud, and defending champion Lorzeno Musetti, while the women’s draw is headlined by Donna Vekic, Mayar Sherif, and 2022 finalist Bernarda Pera. All of them will be looking to break the Hamburg European Open predictions and earn the crown.

Hamburg European Open

Date: July 24-30

Location of the event: Am Rothenbaum in Hamburg, Germany

Surface: Clay

Casper Ruud, coming off of a finals appearance last week at the Nordea Open, is the top player in the men’s draw and has the shortest Hamburg European Open odds to win the event. One of the best clay court players on the ATP Tour, Ruud was a finalist at Roland Garros for the second consecutive year and is now 26-14 this season. He takes on Sebastian Baez in the first round in what should be a relatively easy victory for the Norwegian.

Also playing in the top half of the men’s draw with Ruud is Zverev, Miomir Kecmanovic, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, and Arthur Fils. The bottom half of the draw features Andrey Rublev, who beat Ruud in the finals of the Nordea Open and could potentially face him in another final this week, as well as defending Hamburg European Open predictions champion Musetti, Francisco Cerundolo, and Tomas Etcheverry.

The obvious bet is for another Ruud and Rublev final, but Zverev is also a great candidate to win this week in his home country. The 26-year-old is still trying to get back to the level he was at before his injuries last year (he’s a former world No. 2 now ranked at 19) but has shown signs of putting it all together. He’s 28-18 this season, but 12-4 in his last 16 matches.

Because it’s only a WTA 250 event, the Hamburg European Open doesn’t attract many of the world’s top players. Donna Vekic, the world No. 22, is the top seed in the tournament and has the shortest tennis odds to win. She has four career singles titles, including one this season, and has a strong chance to add to that and rise into the top 20 in the world rankings.

Vekic faces Storm Hunter in the first round and, if successful, takes on wild card Noma Noha Akugue in the second round. The top half of the women’s draw also features 2022 finalists Pera, Polina Kudermetova, Julia Grabher, and Martina Trevisan, who won her opening round match early Monday.

Yulia Putinseva, the sixth seed, is one of the top players in the bottom half. She won her first-round match early Monday, as did Panna Udvardy and German Tamara Korpatsch.

While Altmaier is 13 years younger than Gasquet, he doesn’t have the poise and experience of the French player and is actually 0-1 in his career against Gasquet. Moreover, Gasquet defeated Altmaier in straight sets on clay, so he should have the edge heading into this match on Monday afternoon.

  • Expect a three-set victory for Gasquet.

This should be one of the closest matches in the opening round of the men’s draw, with both players ranked in the top 30. Lajovic, the world No. 23, is 19-16 this season but has lost six matches in a row, whereas Kecmanovic is 18-20 and has won just four of his last 10 matches. Lajovic, however, is 1-0 against Kecmanovic with a victory on clay court.

  • A three-set victory for Lajovic is the most likely outcome here.
