Season So Far
It has been a thrilling first half of the Premier League season, but due to the break in play for the World Cup, we have only just reached the halfway stage. Arsenal hasn’t won a Premier League title since the 2003-04 season, but Mikel Arteta’s side find themselves in an excellent position to end that 19-year wait.
The Gunners currently sit eight clear at the top of the standings, as they have dropped to just a single defeat all season. Meanwhile, Arsenal has won 15 of the 18 games that they have played, and they have the second-best attacking record and second-best defensive record.
For the first time this season, Arsenal finally became favorites for the title following a comprehensive victory in the North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur. That, coupled with a defeat for Manchester City over the same round has given them an excellent chance. However, two games against City before the end of the season look set to be pivotal.
City is looking for a third straight title this term, but they have won just twice in their previous five league games. Pep Guardiola’s side suffered defeat in the Manchester derby in their previous fixture, which sees United sit just a point behind their neighbors, with Newcastle sitting third on goal difference.
It looks set to be a four-way fight for the title this term, with United’s fixture at the Emirates against the Gunners in January likely to be a huge showdown for both sides.
