Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe: Why horse racing is 'Big in Japan'

Thousands of Japanese will go to Paris for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in Longchamp this weekend. The event is a national obsession for Japanese people. It's the richest prize in horse racing and draws a lot of attention. Japan has come close to winning it several times, but never won. This year's prize is €4 million. Some 30 million people in Japan watch the race.  Horse racing is an aspirational pastime for younger generation. They see it as a rival to baseball and football.
