Pundits disagree on Newcastle United vs Fulham score prediction ahead of Premier League clash

Newcastle United return to Premier League action when they take on Fulham at St James' Park on Sunday afternoon (2pm GMT).

Eddie Howe's side will have a spring in their step after they beat Leicester City 2-0 in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals. Dan Burn's first ever goal for the club was followed up with a Joelinton strike just 12 minutes later as the Magpies booked a semi-final clash with Southampton.

The attention for now turns back to the English top-flight, where sixth placed Fulham travel to Newcastle looking for revenge. Howe's team beat the Cottagers 4-1 when the two sides last met back in October.

Here's what the pundits think will happen when the Magpies take on Fulham on Sunday afternoon.

Chris Sutton - BBC Sport

Writing in his latest BBC Sport column, Sutton said: "It was too little, too late for Newcastle when they brought their big guns off the bench to chase the game against Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup, but I don't think that defeat has any bearing on their league form.

"Eddie Howe's side bounced back to pummel Leicester in the Carabao Cup in midweek and they are on a high after reaching the semi-finals - their fans will be too.

"Fulham have surprised a lot of people this season, but I think the Magpies will have too much for them. No shocks here."

Score prediction: Newcastle 3-0 Fulham

Mark Lawrenson - Paddy Power

Speaking to bookies Paddy Power, Lawrenson added: "Newcastle are on a massive high, particularly after the win over Leicester in midweek. The FA Cup defeat at Sheffield Wednesday already feels a distant memory after that win.

"I think Fulham could suffer a hangover from the local derby with Chelsea on Thursday. It’s a quick turnaround."

Score prediction: Newcastle 2-0 Fulham

Paul Merson - Sportskeeda

Merson told Sportskeeda: "Newcastle have been going along very nicely. They don't concede a goal even when they don't play well - their defence is brilliant. Miguel Almiron's been outstanding, and he's working very hard.

"Fulham have also been excellent and if they win their next two Premier League games, they'll be only one point behind Newcastle. That just shows that when you get two quick games and you can get six points, it's a big deal.

"Everything that Newcastle have done has worked so far, and everybody's been an eight on ten for them. They've got good fixtures coming up, and I think they should be able to win this game."

Score prediction: Newcastle 2-0 Fulham
