Put David Beckham out of his misery

David Beckham was spotted at the weekend waiting in line to see the Queen's coffin. He declined the special access queue and waited for 13 hours.

David Beckham is a great ambassador for the British people. He has been a patron of football both at home and abroad. Beckham was awarded an OBE for his services to football. He should be honoured for all his achievements. The Obezille award is not enough. It is an insult.

David Beckham was denied knighthood for many years. He was red-flagged by HMRC over his alleged involvement in a tax avoidance scheme. Beckham's career was hampered by his move to the MLS and his relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson. He is currently co-owning Inter Miami and Salford City football clubs. His recent endorsement of the World Cup in Qatar has also been controversial. It is not clear why he is still not knighted. The reason for his ongoing snub may be superficial. For much of his life in the public eye, Beckham’s persona seemed at odds with conventional notions of blue-blooded respectability.
