Racing Victoria stewards knock back apprentice jockey for Derby day ride

Laura Lafferty was booked to ride her father's horse Artocracy in the Group Two Wakeful Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on Derby day. Stewards disallowed her, because she has not ridden enough city winners to participate in a 'Group racing' day in Victoria. Laffert has five city wins to her name. She rode on Feehan Stake day at The Valley earlier this spring. She also rode a city winner at Rosehill on Golden Gift day last year. Her camp is disappointed with the lack of communication from Racing Victoria regarding the issue. They applied for an exemption to the stewards, but they never responded.
