Ranking the most dominant Super League teams in history

There are many ways to view dominance in team sports. League Leaders Shield is a clear example of dominance. Super League teams can be considered dominant because they were consistently the best team in their division. The salary cap sport allows any team to beat anybody on their day. There are shock Grand Final winners from time to time. To go all season winning week in week out and finish top of the table is the true mark of Super Leagues dominance as it relies on consistency and chance.

Bradford Bulls won the Super League title in 1999 with 25 wins from a possible 30. They qualified for the final having beaten St Helens 40-4. Saints came second in the league table and made the Grand Final via the preliminary final against Castleford. Bradford lost 8-6.

Wigan Warriors ranked ninth in the list of the most dominant Super League teams. Warriors won 49 points from 28 games and conceded just 49, but they didn't win the Grand Final.

Rhinos won 24 of their 28 games and lost only twice. Rhinos finished nine points clear of second-placed Bradford. They won the Grand Final 16-8. Danny McGuire scored 36 points on the season.

St Helens won the treble in 2006 with 24 wins from 28 games. They also won a Grand Final, Grand final and Challenge Cup. Head coach Daniel Anderson was awarded the Sports Personality of the Year award. Hull FC came second in the league and won their title at Old Trafford.

Castleford Tigers are ranked 6th in the list of the most dominant Super League teams. They won 20 of their 23 regular games and 5 of 7 in Super 8s. Luke Gale was the Man of Steel and Greg Eden scored 38 tries. Castleford reached the Grand Final, but lost to St Helens.

Justin Holbrook's St Helens won 26 games from 29 games in his last season in England. They scored 52 points a game and conceded just 13.6. Tommy Makinson scored 23 tries and Lachlan Coote 247 points. Salford Red Devils won the Grand Final 23-6 against them.

Bradford Bulls won their third Super League title in 1997 with a record of 91%. They won the title by seven points from second-placed London Broncos. They lost in the play-off to Castleford in their first game.

St Helens won the inaugural Super League season with 91% record. They won Challenge Cup and Premiership trophy but lost the final to Wigan Warriors. Wigans won Premiership title despite only winning one game.  St. Helen's is ranked third in the list.

St Helens finished the season with 12 consecutive victories. They lost only twice in 23 games. St Helen didn't win the Grand Final. The last time they didn’t win it was in the first round of the playoffs against Huddersfield Giants.

Wigan Warriors won the Super League in 1998 with 91.3% of the points. Jason Robinson scored 17 tries and Kris Radlinski 13. Six of their players made the Dream Team. They defeated Leeds Rhinos twice in the play-offs. They allowed just 8 points in two games.
