Real Madrid vs. Liverpool Odds, Predictions & Betting Tips

Live on BT Sports, Real Madrid host Liverpool in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 stage at the Santiago Bernabeu this Wednesday. Tipster Wizard is on hand with his best bets for the game.

The Spanish giants came back from 2-0 down to record an emphatic 5-2 win in the first leg at Anfield three weeks ago and are firm favourites to progress to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

After the first leg win over Liverpool, Ancelotti’s men went three games without a win in all competitions including a 1-0 loss to Barcelona in the Copa Del Rey. However, they managed to comfortably beat Espanyol last weekend and that win should give them confidence heading into this all important clash against Klopp’s men.

As for the visitors, it was a disastrous evening at Anfield in the first leg as they now sit on the brink of elimination from the Champions League. Since that loss, Liverpool have had mixed results in the Premier League, winning two, drawing one and losing one of the four games they have played.

However, that run includes a 7-0 hammering of Manchester United which does indicate how lethal this Liverpool team can be on their day. That result will have certainly given the Liverpool camp some hope of pulling off one of the greatest ever comebacks in the history of this competition at the Bernabeu, replicating the comeback against Barcelona back in the 2018-19 season when they came back from 3-0 down to win 4-3 on aggregate.

Another goal-fest can not be ruled out here as Liverpool will look to attack from minute one while Real Madrid will continue to threaten on the counter.A mouth-watering Champions League clash awaits us and as usual I have you covered with 2 of my best betting angles below:

Team News:

Ferland Mendy & David Alaba are out for Real Madrid.

Luis Diaz, Thiago, Joe Gomez & Calvin Ramsey are out for Liverpool while Naby Keita, Henderson & Bajcetic are doubtful.

Real Madrid possible starting lineup:

Courtois; Carvajal, Militao, Rudiger, Nacho; Modric, Tchouameni, Kroos; Valverde, Benzema, Vinicius Jr

Liverpool possible starting lineup:

Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Henderson; Salah, Jota, Nunez; Gakpo

Real Madrid vs Liverpool

Bet Builder (Selections Below)

- Vinicius Junior Over 1.5 shots in the match

- Liverpool Over 8.5 shots in the match

- Over 0.5 goals in the 2nd half

Vinicius Junior is averaging 4 shots per game in the Champions League for Real Madrid this season. He scored a brace in the first leg, had 3 shots and was the main attacking threat for Madrid all game. With his side leading 5-2, I expect the ball to be passed to Vinicius a lot more than usual for him to hurt Liverpool on the counter and this should lead to him getting at least 2 shots comfortably.

As for Liverpool shots, they are averaging close to 17 shots per game in the Champions League this season and considering they have to overcome a 3-goal deficit, I expect them to get desperate and have a lot of shots which means they should quite comfortably clear the “Over 8.5 shots” line.

Finally, with the current scoreline, I expect the second half to be very open with Liverpool going all out attack and Madrid finding a lot of space to counter them. There were 3 second half goals in the first leg and at least one in the second leg should be a banker. Combining these 3 selections gives us a solid bet builder @ 4/5 and I am happy to stake 1pt on it as our main bet for this game.

Vinicius Junior anytime goalscorer + Konate to be carded

Vinicius Junior is in supreme goalscoring form, having scored seven goals in his last 10 appearances for Real Madrid in all competitions. He scored a brace in the first leg against Liverpool and will have a lot of space on the counter as Liverpool will have to take an attacking approach with the scoreline as it is. As for the player booking,

I have picked out Konate as he will be marking Vinicius on the counter with Trent going forward and joining the attack. He has picked up two bookings in his last four appearances for Liverpool and a mistimed tackle on Vinicius could mean another yellow card for him here. Combining these two selections gives us a cracking longshot @ 17/1 and I am happy to stake a small 0.25pt on it as our 2nd bet for this game.
