Rick Perry and Jerry Jones are backing legal sports gambling in Texas. They are part of the Sports Betting Alliance. DraftKings, FanDuel and Bet MGM are also supporting the cause. Texas has waded into gambling waters over the past 40 years. Texas is surrounded by legal casinos in New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana. Since 2020, Louisiana has recorded $32 million in sports betting revenue. The state lottery began in 1992. Horse racing became legal in 1986. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry J. Jones made contributions to the 2022 re-election campaigns of Gov. Greg Abbott, Lt. Gov Dan Patrick and Attorney General Ken Paxton.
