Five international filmmakers will reveal secrets behind their projects when they join Gold Derby’s special “Meet the Experts” Q&A event with 2024 awards contenders. They will participate in two video discussions to premiere on Wednesday, November 29, at 4:00 p.m. PT; 7:00 p.m. ET. We’ll have a one-on-one with our senior editor Denton Davidson and a roundtable chat with all of the group together.

Synopsis: The flight of a rugby team crashes on a glacier in the Andes. The few passengers who survive the crash find themselves in one of the world’s toughest environments to survive.

Bio: J.A. Bayona’s career has included “The Impossible,” “A Monster Calls,” “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” and “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.”

Synopsis: Adaptation of a Nobel-Prize winning novel about a late 19th century Polish peasant woman who creates havoc by marrying an older rich man.

Bio: DK Welchman and Hugh Welchman were Oscar nominees for “Loving Vincent.”

Shayda (Sony Pictures Classics)

Synopsis: A young Iranian mother and her six-year-old daughter find refuge in an Australian women’s shelter during the two weeks of the Iranian New Year (Nowruz).

Bio: Noora Niasari’s career has included “Beirut, Under the Bridge,” “The Phoenix,” “Antunez House” and “Waterfall.”

The Teachers’ Lounge (Sony Pictures Classics)

Synopsis: When one of her students is suspected of theft, teacher Carla Nowak decides to get to the bottom of the matter. Caught between her ideals and the school system, the consequences of her actions threaten to break her.

Bio: Ilker Catak’s career has included “Where We Are,” “Fidelity,” “Once Upon a Time… Indianerland” and “I Was, I Am, I Will Be.”
