Rublev vs. Djokovic Wimbledon odds and best bet: Pick Serbian to win quarterfinal in straight sets

Novak Djokovic meets Andrey Rublev in the Wimbledon quarterfinal on his quest for Grand Slam title No. 24.

The pre-match narrative: Neither of these competitors had a relatively easy time navigating the Round of 16 at The Championships. Still, we’re looking to wager on a straight-sets win for Djokovic as he continues to march along at the All England Club.

Rublev vs. Djokovic Wimbledon odds and best bet

Best Bet: Djokovic -2.5 sets (-127)

There’s no bigger challenge in tennis than beating Djokovic physically and mentally.

Djokovic’s unorthodox, yet effective conditioning routines make him machine-like, but it’s his mind that continues to be his greatest weapon. Look no further than his most recent match against Hubert Hurkacz.

Although he did lose his first set of the tournament in a 3-1 victory, he managed to win two tiebreaks against Hurkacz.

That may not seem overly impressive, but this will. Djokovic has won 14 consecutive tiebreaks at Grand Slams this year, demonstrating an impressive ability to perform under pressure.

The most unnerving part of Djokovic’s recent win for his opponents, however, is the fact that Hurkacz’s serve was downright sensational in the match. The Polish tennis star fired home 33 aces to just four double faults and still couldn’t win anything more than a set.

Rublev is enjoying a solid run at the All England Club with wins over Max Purcell, Aslan Karatsev, David Goffin and Alexander Bublik. There’s no question, however, that Djokovic is a major step up in class from his previous opponents.

Rublev’s serve is good, but it’s hard to imagine him having a performance better than the one Hurkacz put on display.

This has been a difficult matchup for Rublev, too. Djokovic has three wins in four matches against Rublev, including a straight-sets victory over him at the Australian Open earlier this year.

It’s going to take a herculean effort from a truly special tennis talent to take even one set from Djokovic at a Grand Slam.

Key stat: Djokovic has won four of his last five Grand Slam matches in straight sets.
