Ruby Walsh and Bryan Cooper make bold prediction for how Gordon Elliott can turn the tide on Willie Mullins

GORDON ELLIOTT wowed the racing world with his weekend of domination at Down Royal.

And fresh off the Cullentra handler snatching ELEVEN winners over the two-day meet, some big names are predicting big things for the new National Hunt season.

Among them are legendary Irish jockey pair Ruby Walsh and Bryan Cooper.

During his preview of the November Cheltenham meeting, Racing TV ambassador Walsh outlined how he believes the 45-year-old and his star runners are primed to kick on this season.

He said: "Gordon Elliott had a brilliant weekend at Down Royal.

"He is the one that keeps driving Willie Mullins forward, then there's the likes of Henry de Bromhead and Gavin Cromwell who are driving Gordon forward.

"Every sport requires competition.

"The Irish dominance of the racing isn’t going away just yet, but that wheel will eventually turn, just not yet.

"There's a lot of good horses in Ireland and a lot of people who are investing big money in Irish racing, which is a huge help.

"The success will have to keep coming and you just don’t know what the next generation will bring."

Gold Cup winner Cooper expressed a similarly glass-full outlook on how Elliott is shaping up ahead of the forthcoming jumps season.

While speaking to Boylesports, who offer horse racing odds, he added: "Gordon has spent a lot of money on some point to point horses, so I will be very interested to see where they go.

"I am very interested to see where Gerri Colombe goes on soft ground, he is probably Gordon's standout horse.

"I am also keen to see where Irish Point goes, he won at Aintree and Down Royal as well so if they go chasing with him, he could rank highly.

"Teahupoo as well, he has paid his way.

"Gordon has some money spinners there and he is always interesting to follow in the big field handicaps.

"He throws a lot of firepower at them and then the Paddy Power Chase at Christmas time and the Irish Grand National too.

"He’s very determined on putting it up to Willie as best as he can.

"I think he is doing things differently this season, a few of their winter horses have taken a run whereas previously they might have been waiting at this time of year so maybe he is attacking it in a different way."
