Colorado two-way standout Travis Hunter and the Colorado State safety whose late hit landed him in the hospital showed there are no hard feelings by going bowling.  Hunter and defensive back Henry Blackburn went to a bowling alley in Boulder on Wednesday to roll a few frames. Hunter was running a deep route in the first quarter of a game on Sept. 16 when he was hit by Blackburn shortly after the ball sailed over his head. Hunter returned to the game but later left to go to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with a lacerated liver. Hunter missed last weekend's 42-6 loss at Oregon.

ATHENS, GREECE (AP) - Results from Greek football:

Maybe the Jacksonville Jaguars can jump-start their lackluster offense overseas. After scoring nine and 17 points in consecutive home losses to Kansas City and Houston, respectively, the Jaguars headed across the pond for back-to-back games in London. Jacksonville will be the home team when it plays Atlanta at Wembley Stadium on Sunday. The following week, the Jaguars move across town and play as the visitor against Buffalo at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The Falcons-Jaguars matchup is the first of five NFL international games in 2023 and the first of three in London. The Jags can only hope they fare better than they did the last two weeks on their home field.

DETROIT — They had to wait a few extra hours, thanks to a persistent rain storm that caused the game to be suspended after four innings Wednesday night, but Miguel Cabrera’s latest milestone hit, four innings of pure dominance by Tarik Skubal and the Tigers’ 8-0 win over the Kansas City Roya…

DALLAS — In the past six months, we’ve heard little from Kyrie Irving publicly, and nothing whatsoever on why he decided to re-sign with the Mavericks barely one hour after his free agency window opened in July.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are providing a case study on the value of NFL running backs. Najee Harris and Jalen Warren have split the workload almost 50/50 through the first three games of the season. The Steelers say that Harris will continue to be the featured back as the season wears on, though Warren has won raves for his willingness to serve as a blocker in pass protection. The Steelers take a 2-1 record into a visit to Houston in Week 4.

Rookie Ryan Noda hit a tiebreaking home run in the eighth inning and the Oakland Athletics held on for a 2-1 win against the AL Central champion Minnesota Twins. Noda’s 16th homer helped Oakland hold on after Minnesota had tied the game in the sixth. It was just the third win in the past 14 games for the Athletics, who avoided being swept and temporarily eluded their 111th loss, which would be the most in the majors since Detroit lost 114 games in 2019. Lucas Erceg (4-4) won in relief of Luis Medina,

The best women's hockey players in the world aren't the only ones in the sport excited about the new pro league launching in January. Many of the biggest stars across the NHL are eager to see the Professional Women's Hockey League and hope it thrives. NHL officials are assisting the PWHL on scheduling and other startup logistics to try to assist with the short timeline before the first season. The helping hand comes even as the PWHL and its six teams have private ownership in the form of Dodgers co-owner Mark Walter.

PHILADELPHIA — The Damian Lillard domino finally toppled Wednesday, when the Milwaukee Bucks pulled off a stunning move to acquire the superstar guard less than a week before training camp opens.

The Los Angeles Chargers will face the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday in a series where the home team has won each of the past four games. The Chargers held on to defeat the Minnesota Vikings 28-24 last week to get their first win of the season. The Raiders lost 23-18 to the Pittsburgh Steelers and could be without quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who is in concussion protocol.

Milwaukee Brewers rookie center fielder Garrett Mitchell returned to the lineup after a quicker-than-anticipated recovery from an early-season shoulder injury. The 24-year-old hurt his left shoulder while sliding into third base in the 10th inning of a 6-5, 11-inning victory at Seattle on April 18. He underwent surgery in May to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder. Mitchell was batting .259 with a .307 on-base percentage, .466 slugging percentage, three homers, six RBIs and one steal in 16 games before the injury. Infielder/outfielder Brian Anderson was designated for assignment.

The Indianapolis Colts are hoping rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson will clear the concussion protocol and be ready to play Sunday against Los Angeles. The Rams are still trying to figure out what to do with a potentially short-handed offensive line. Both teams face plenty of questions heading into Week 4. Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has struggled in what has been a one-dimensional offense over the past two weeks, both losses. Richardson hasn't finished either of his two starts and sat out last week. But the Colts have won two straight and lead the AFC South.

Los Angeles Times NFL writer, Sam Farmer examines this week's matchups. Lines according to FanDuel Sportsbook (O/U = over/under). Last week's record 9-7 (.563); season 27-21 (.563). Using point spreads with the scores Farmer predicted, the record against the spread last week would have been …

Finding motivation against Colorado couldn’t have been easier for Oregon after all the pregame trash talking, logo stomping and hype that fueled the Ducks' showdown against the Buffaloes. The ninth-ranked Ducks used that to roll to a decisive victory over the Buffaloes but know they will need to dig deeper this week when they visit struggling Stanford in a considerably lower-profile game. Oregon doesn’t have to look back too far to find out what can happen if intensity is lacking in any way. The Ducks came to Stanford two years ago with a No. 3 ranking to face an unranked team and lost 31-24.

Pittsburgh travels to Virginia Tech with both programs off to sluggish starts. The Panthers and the Hokies are both riding three-game losing streaks after winning their season openers. Pitt's status at quarterback is uncertain. Senior Phil Jurkovec left a loss to North Carolina with an undisclosed injury. If Jurkovec can't play, the Panthers will turn to Christian Veilleux. Pitt has won three straight against the Hokies and four of the last five meetings.

The Tampa Bay Lightning say goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy is expected to miss the first two months of the NHL season after undergoing back surgery. General manager Julien BriseBois said Vasilevskiy had a successful microdiscectomy to address a lumbar disk herniation. The recovery could sideline arguably the best goalie in the world for 25 or more games. Tampa Bay was hoping the 29-year-old would be fresh after a first-round playoff exit following three consecutive trips to the Stanley Cup Final. Vasilevskiy won the Vezina Trophy in 2019 as the league's top netminder and the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2021 as playoff MVP.

New England's Ezekiel Elliott is set for a Dallas homecoming after seven seasons as the star running back for the Cowboys. Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott is one of his best friends and a former twin rookie star in 2016 with the Cowboys. Sunday's meeting between the Cowboys and Patriots figures to be emotional for both. Dallas is trying to bounce back from a surprising loss in Arizona. New England is trying to build on its first victory, over the New York Jets. Dallas extended its home winning streak to nine games by beating the Jets two weeks ago.

Miguel Cabrera hit his 511th home run and scored twice, and the Detroit Tigers beat the Kansas City Royals 8-0 T in the completion of a suspended game. Cabrera, who is retiring after the season, tied Mel Ott for 25th on the career home run list. The 40-year-old has 373 homers for Detroit, tying Norm Cash for second behind Al Kaline’s 399. Play was suspended because of rain after four innings and an 80-minute wait on Wednesday night. Miguel Díaz (1-0) pitched two innings for the win. Kansas City was held to four hits for the 25th time this season.

The Seattle Seahawks and New York Giants have split their 20 career meetings. The Seahawks are 5-0 all time at MetLife Stadium, including their only Super Bowl title in franchise history. Three of the five wins have come against the Giants. In the three seasons the Seahawks have reached the Super Bowl, they have beaten the Giants in the regular season.

Tyrrell Hatton and Jon Rahm will play together for the European team in the first match of the morning foursomes at the Ryder Cup on Friday. They could turn the air as blue as Europe’s color on the boards at the Ryder Cup. Both are known to have tempers though Hatton thinks he would win in a “swear-off.” Hatton says he swears “any time of day, anywhere.” He was preparing to hit the first shot of his practice round on Thursday when a chant came from the grandstand surrounding the first tee. It was "swear in a minute, you’re gonna swear in a minute.” Hatton stood back off his ball and laughed with the spectators.

Washington has dominated to start the 2023 season, putting up massive offensive numbers while already being touted as a potential College Football Playoff team. No chance the seventh-ranked Huskies will start looking ahead. Not with the improvement its next opponent, Arizona, has shown and certainly not after what happened last season. Washington opened last season 4-0, lost its first Pac-12 road game to UCLA and dropped the next game to Arizona State, all but ending its CFP hopes. The Huskies have looked even better starting this season. So has Arizona. The Wildcats have continued their progress in three seasons under coach Jedd Fisch and are coming off a road win over Stanford.

Ten years ago Francesco Farioli was finishing his philosophy degree at an Italian university. Now he’s coaching Nice, an ambitious French side where the team’s captain is five years older than him. Farioli’s path in soccer has been an unusual one and he never had a playing career. But on Sunday the 34-year-old Italian has the chance to put Nice on top of the French league when it hosts Brest. Unbeaten in six games so far Nice has secured away wins against defending champion Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco. Farioli’s side is one point behind leader Brest. A win will guarantee top spot for Nice.

The Ryder Cup is finally here and U.S. captain Zach Johnson says it's time to let the thoroughbreds run. The final act before the first session was the opening ceremony. Johnson told the host nation that Italy has given so much to America and he hopes America can give something back at Marco Simone. European captain Luke Donald has an idea: How about that 17-inch trophy? It all gets going Friday morning with four matches of foursomes. Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns face Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton in the first match. Johnson is sitting out Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas.

No. 22 Florida and unbeaten Kentucky each seek to improve to 2-0 in the SEC and stay in East Division contention in pursuit of top-ranked Georgia . The visiting Gators also look to stop a two-game series skid against the Wildcats, who have won three of the past five meetings after losing the previous 31. Florida has won three in a row while Wildcats seek their second 5-0 start in three years. Florida features the SEC's top defense at 244.8 yards allowed per game and are also No. 1 against the pass (162.8). Kentucky is averaging 38 points per contest.

The Boston Red Sox say announcer and former knuckleballer Tim Wakefield is undergoing treatment for a disease they did not specify and asked for fans to respect his privacy after his illness was outed without his consent by ex-teammate Curt Schilling. The team issued a statement on Thursday after Schilling said on a podcast that Wakefield had brain cancer. The news led to an outpouring of support for Wakefield – and criticism of Schilling. Wakefield is 57. He retired in 2012 with a 200-192 record and 4.41 ERA in more than 3,000 major league innings. He was a part of Boston’s 2004 and ’07 World Series championships and was inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame in 2016.

The Cincinnati Bengals are looking to put together a winning streak as they renew their old AFC Central rivalry with the Tennessee Titans. The Bengals have won four of the past five. That includes an AFC divisional game in January 2022 on Cincinnati's run to the Super Bowl as the AFC champs. Bengals coach Zac Taylor is 3-0 against the Titans. Tennessee coach Mike Vrabel still is looking for his first victory as a coach against the Bengals. The Titans are trying to bounce back from their worst offensive performance in 49 years after managing only 94 yards in losing last week in Cleveland.

The XFL and USFL plan to join forces. The spring pro football leagues announced in a statement Thursday that they would merge going forward. The statement says details regarding the new league would be rolled out at a later date. The XFL has eight teams from Seattle, Washington, to Washington, D.C. The USFL also has eight teams that stretch from New Jersey to Memphis. The leagues say the deal would be subject to customary regulatory approvals. The statement says the new league “will establish best-in-class operations based on the most recent seasons of both leagues."

Rutgers will try to bounce back from its first loss of the season when it plays host to Wagner at SHI Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Scarlet Knights are 3-1 after dropping a 31-7 decision to No. 2 Michigan in the Big House this past weekend. Wagner is 2-2 after holding on to beat Merrimack. The Seahawks are 2-2 overall and they have won two straight games for the first time since 2018. They are 2-0 in the Northeast Conference for the first time since 2016. Rutgers needs three more wins in its final eight games to become bowl eligible.

The NBA has hired Albert Sanders Jr. as its new head of referee operations. He's a Google executive and former associate counsel to President Barack Obama. Sanders starts the job Monday. He will be an executive vice president working in concert with senior vice president for referee development and training Monty McCutchen. Sanders will report to Byron Spruell, who is the NBA’s president for league operations.

The WNBA has evolved to an era where more and more post players are diversifying their game to be able to step out and shoot 3s, handle the basketball and not just play with their back-to-the-basket. It's no coincidence that teams still playing for the championship are led by some of those players. The top six finishers in the MVP race were forwards with versatile skills. The top three vote getters, Breanna Stewart, A’ja Wilson and Alyssa Thomas as well as fifth place finisher Satou Sabally are playing in the WNBA semifinals that continue Friday night.

NASCAR will return to the oval at Indianapolis Motor Speedway next season for the 30-year anniversary of stock cars racing at the historic venue. The inaugural Brickyard 400 was held on Aug. 6, 1994 and won by Indiana icon Jeff Gordon in the first of his five Indianapolis victories. That NASCAR debut was the first race beside the Indianapolis 500 to be held at the track since 1916. NASCAR raced on the oval from 1994 through 2020, but under Roger Penske ownership the race was held on the 2.439-mile road course the last three seasons as part of a shared weekend with IndyCar. The Brickyard 400 will be held on July 21, with the Xfinity Series racing on the oval one day earlier.
