Scott Williams taunts Michael van Gerwen as he stuns Dutchman at PDC World Championship

Scott Williams could not resist a cheeky dig at Michael van Gerwen as he claimed a major scalp at the PDC World Championship.

Williams was the huge underdog facing MVG in the quarter-finals, but that did not stop him taking the first set in fine fashion before claiming a famous 5-3 win.

'Shaggy' won all three legs after a slow start from his opponent and his showboating self came out to play immediately.

With the end of the set signalling a break in play, Williams pointed to Van Gerwen on stage before gesturing a big O to indicate the score.

It was the first set that the three-time world champion has lost in the 2024 Championship at Alexandra Palace.

However, it did not take long for the Green Machine to set that slight right as he stormed the next set to level the scores.

And fans saw right through Williams' act, with some even a little concerned.

One wrote on social media: "Now that's what you call poking the bear..."

Another put: "Can’t stand this Scott Williams me, hope mvg pumps him 5-1."

While a third posted: "Can someone just check the deed on the Alexandra Palace? Because Scott Williams walks around like he owns the place."

But Williams showed no sign of slowing down as he ended up beating Van Gerwen in a titanic clash and the biggest scalp of his career.

The Boston-born star has never reached this stage of the World Championships before and will take on either Luke Humphries or Dave Chisnall, who face off in the later clash on Monday night.

On the other side of the tie, Luke Littler cruised into the semi-final with a crushing 5-1 victory over Brendan Dolan.

It has set up a tantalising tie against former world champion Rob Cross as the fairytale continues for the 16-year-old.

Williams, meanwhile, has enjoyed his run to the quarter-finals at the World Championships this year.

And it has not been without incident, trying to karate chop a wasp on stage as well as referring to two World Wars and one World Cup after beating German darts player Martin Schindler.
