Sean Tarry brings out his big guns in the Western Cape

Princess Calla is the best-weighted runner by at least 4.5kg and will have no issue with the distance.

Sean Tarry has had an auspicious start to his Western Cape campaign this season with Tail Of The Comet getting him off to the perfect beginning.

Another two stable luminaries make their appearances tomorrow at Hollywoodbets Durbanville, Equus Horse-Of-The-Year Princess Calla and unbeaten three-year-old filly Mrs Geriatrix.

For Princess Calla this is a kind of homecoming because she started her career with trainer Adam Marcus. While she made her debut during the KwaZulu- Natal winter season, she returned to Cape Town where she finished second to Captain’s Ransom in the Grade 1 Cape Fillies Guineas and third behind Queen Supreme in the Grade 1 Paddock Stakes.

However, she did not race at Durbanville where she will line up in Race 4, a Cape A Stakes over 1250m. She is the best-weighted runner by at least 4.5kg and will have no issue with the distance.

The daughter of Flower Alley does run well fresh and does look the best bet of the meeting.

The main threat is likely to come from Rio Querari. Justin Snaith’s charge is a talented enough sprinter but he will have to give 3kg to Princess Calla and that will not be an easy task.

In 2020 Princess Calla won the Grade 2 Western Cape Fillies Championship and that will be the mission of Mrs Geriatrix.

The daughter of Vercingetorix won all five of her starts as a juvenile and made a winning seasonal and three-year-old debut over 1450m on the Inside track at Turffontein last month.

She might not be the biggest filly around but she is loaded with ability and like Princess Calla, has shown her class and versatility by winning all six of her appearances over different distances, from 800m to 1450m.

This will be her first start on a left-handed bend, but she should enjoy racing around the turn. If she fails to handle the track, then Winter Cloud and improving Double Grand Slam could be worth including in the Pick 6.

Richard Fourie is aboard both Tarry runners and if ever there was a positive sign, he has not lost a race on either of the two.
