Seattle Mariners vs. Oakland Athletics Picks, Odds & Predictions

Do you like watching pitching duels at the highest level? If you answered yes, this game will be fun for you to watch. Two struggling teams have had an incredible series on the mound in a very close series. The Seattle Mariners (13-16) are set to face the Oakland Athletics (6-24) for the final game of the three-game series.

Neither of these MLB teams are where they had hoped they would be in May. Luckily for them, the MLB schedule is just beginning. In a day filled with many enticing MLB games, feast your eyes on our Mariners vs Athletics prediction.

Seattle Mariners vs Oakland Athletics

Location of the game: Oakland Coliseum, Oakland, CA.

Date & Time: Tuesday, May 2, 2023, 3:37 p.m. EST.

The MLB odds for this series have not mattered thus far. Both the Seattle Mariners and Oakland Athletics were in the game until the final pitch of the first two games of the series. When making your MLB picks, keep that in mind. Our Mariners vs Athletics prediction will be made keeping the trends of the series in the back of our head.

Moneyline: On the moneyline, Mariners vs Athletics prediction is uplifted with the Mariners being given -220 odds, and Oakland is the big underdog at +190 odds at home.

Spread: When it comes to the spread, the Mariners will have to cover -1.5 (-130) odds, and Oakland will be given +1.5 (+110) odds.

Over/Under: Finally, the over/under is set at 8.5 runs for the Thursday afternoon game.

Game one of the series at some of the best MLB stats of any pitcher this season. The Miller vs Miller matchup of rookies was electric and defied what we expected to see with two teams lower in the MLB standings. Surprisingly, in a low-scoring series, this total is higher. The irony is that this is probably the best pitching matchup on paper of the three-game series.

Coming off his best outing of the season, George Kirby is ready to stay hot for the Seattle Mariners. In a quality rotation, Kirby has been one of the best Seattle Mariners players. The 26-year-old is 2-2 with a 2.93 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 24 strikeouts through 30.2 innings pitched.

Kirby is coming off an eight-inning outing allowing just one run on four hits, striking out seven.

The Oakland Athletics have an alarmingly high ERA, but Drew Rucinski looks to have a good outing and lower it. The veteran is getting more reps thanks to the Oakland Athletics injury report and is set to make his second trip to the mound this season. Rucinski is spending his first year in MLB after a five-year hiatus. Getting in the grove early on will be important for the RHP.

As the Athletics continue the race to 10 wins, Rucisnki can help add another one to the win column. Their days are numbered in the Bay Area, but they are hoping to give the fans at the Oakland Coliseum a show to finish the series. Rucinski allowed 3 earned runs on 11 hits and only had one strikeout against the Cincinnati Reds last week. This was his lone start of the season and lasted 5.2 innings pitched. Although their record does not show it, facing the Mariners will be a bigger challenge for the 34-year-old pitcher.

As the Seattle Mariners and Oakland Athletics are set to battle, every divisional matchup matters in the AL West. Both offenses are struggling as of late, so we are going to take advantage of that. The pitching in this series has been phenomenal, and it should finish that way.

  • Take under 8.5 (-115) runs in the series finale.

With how close this series has been, one run could decide the game. With that being said, it may be smarter to take the moneyline rather than the spread.

  • It seems like a no-brainer to take Seattle (-220) against Oakland.
