SEC Football: College Football Playoff odds for 11 SEC teams

The 12-team College Football Playoff structure is making its long-awaited debut next season. For the programs that have just missed the mark of the last decade or so, this is a collective sigh of relief, especially with the retirement of legendary Alabama head coach Nick Saban making things interesting.

The SEC, still the most dominant conference in the country, will now welcome two new blue-blood programs, with Texas and Oklahoma looking to up the ante in an already dominant slate of programs littered with talent from head to toe, including Texas A&M and new head coach Mike Elko who looks to bring the Aggies back to contending for a playoff spot year after year of declining play with Jimbo Fisher at the helm.

Outside of the Championship odds, the real question is who has the best chance to make the College Football Playoffs’ newly expanded field? On Tuesday, BetOnline released their odds for 33 teams to make the field, which included 11 SEC programs, including the Aggies. Here are all 11 SEC quads who look to contend for Title in 2024.

Oklahoma’s first season in the SEC could go two ways: A surprising nine or possible 10-win finish or falling trap to tougher defenses week after week while barely earning enough wins for bowl eligibility.

2023 record: 7-6 (4-4 SEC)

Projected record: 9-3 (5-3 SEC)

College Football Playoff odds: +500

A new coaching regime is here, as head coach Mike Elko is looking to propel the Aggies from the bottom of the barrel to the top of the heap. while some may doubt this team in 2024, their SEC schedule is very manageable, and quarterback Conner Weigman is poised for a huge rebound.

2023 record: 11-2 (6-2 SEC)

Projected record: 11-2 (6-2 SEC)

College Football Playoff odds: +400

Head coach Eli Drinkwitz finally lived up to his potential last season, as the Tigers finished 11-2 with a Cotton Bowl win over Ohio State, while next season, starting quarterback Brady Cook and superstar wide receiver Luther Burden III return in an attempt to tear through SEC defenses.

2023 record: 10-3 (6-2 SEC)

Projected record: 8-4 (4-4 SEC)

On paper, at least, the Tigers are once again loaded on both sides of the ball, but replacing the historic production of Heisman-winning quarterback Jayden Daniels will be nearly impossible. However, Garrett Nussmeier has enough talent to help lead LSU back into the playoff conversation.

Nick Saban is headed to the booth as former Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer has quite possibly the toughest succession job in college football history, outside of Jimbo Fisher replacing Bobby Bowden at Florida State more than a decade ago. With quarterback Jalen Milroe returning for a final season, expect the Tide to be in the thick of the playoff race up until the end.

2023 record: 11-2 (6-2 SEC)

Projected record: 11-1 (7-1 SEC)

College Football Playoff odds: +150

Surprisingly tied with Alabama with +150 odds of making the CFP, I’m putting my money on the Rebels, who have as good of a chance as an SEC squad to go undefeated in 2024.

Outside of losing star running back Quinshon Judkins to Ohio State, quarterback Jaxson Dart returns for a final go-around, while ascending wide receiver Tre Watson is a complete mismatch on the outside.

2023 record: 12-2 (8-1 Big 12)

Projected record: 11-1 (7-1 SEC)

College Football Playoff odds: -500

Is Texas back? Probably, but this season will tell us just how back they actually are after failing to reach the Championship last season due to questionable play-calling against the Washington Huskies.

The bottom line is quarterback Quinn Ewers has everything at his disposal, including former Alabama wide receiver Isaiah Bond, coupled with an elite backfield and a veteran defense. However, amid the Longhorn’s first season in the SEC, it’s going to be a much tougher slate.

2023 record: 13-1 (8-0 SEC)

Projected record: 12-0 (8-0 SEC)

College Football Playoff odds: -900

The only question is, will the Bulldogs finish 12-0 or 11-1? Honestly, I believe the Texas Longhorns are Georgia’s only potential blemish because the machine led by future Hall of Fame coach Kirby Smart rarely malfunctions, and quarterback Carson Beck could have a Heisman-worthy season in 2024.
