Rugby fans are rejoicing here in sunny South Africa as the Super Rugby Unlocked brings the top provincial teams squaring off to be the best. 

A total of 7 teams will participate in the competition which kicked off last weekend on the 9 of October.

The competition consists of 7 teams that will each play seven matches against each other over the course of two months with the competition finishing up on the 21 of November. But, rugby fans do not have to despair as the Currie Cup kicks off a week after the Super Rugby Unlocked finishes on the 28 of November. 

Although the competitions are seen as separate the points accumulated from the Super Rugby Unlocked will be carried over to the Currie Cup. This will be a first in South Africa as rugby fans will be able to enjoy both local rugby and cricket over the summer holidays. 

The top four teams on the log will play in the semi finals which is set to take place on the 16 of January and the final taking place a week after that 23 of January.

In football news, South Africa’s Bafana Bafana lost their friendly match 2-1 against Zambia on Sunday the 11. They now face São Tomé and Príncipe in two matches in November in the group stages of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifications. 

The MTN 8 quarter finals are taking place this weekend with two games happening on Saturday with SuperSport United battling TTM (15:00) and  Cape Town City vs Orlando Pirates (18:00). Sunday sees another two MTN8 games taking place between Maritzburg United taking on Kaizer Chiefs (15:00) and Bloemfontein Celtic vs Mamelodi Sundowns (18:00). The winning team will take home R8 million in prize money.
