Serie A Betting: Goals Galore for Sassuolo vs Frosinone

We have 11 matches left of the 2023-24 Serie A season, and yet, there are already quite a few near-guarantees. Inter are the Serie A betting odds favorite to claim their first Scudetto since Simone Inzaghi’s appointment in 2021. Meanwhile, Salernitana are all but certain to suffer relegation after a dismal start that has seen both Paulo Sousa and Simone’s brother, Filippo, exit after failing to turn the tide in Salerno.

It remains to be seen who will join Salernitana in the second division next season, however; Lecce is in 13th place and sit level on 25 points with Empoli, one above Udinese and Frosinone and two above Hellas Verona and Cagliari. Cagliari occupy the relegation zone, with Claudio Ranieri’s side currently sitting three points above Sassuolo and nine above Salernitana.

This weekend will feature a trio of relegation six-pointers: Frosinone will travel to Sassuolo, Salernitana will head to Cagliari and Lecce will host Hellas Verona. All signs point to a high-scoring fixture between a Frosinone team that is playing top-flight football for the first time in five years, and a Sassuolo side that is reeling at the moment. If you’re planning to bet on Italian soccer, back the Over for Sassuolo vs Frosinone.

Since reaching Serie A for the first time in club history in 2013, Sassuolo have emerged as a comfortable mid-table side, but today, they find themselves at risk of ending their decade-long spell in the top-flight. Whilst finding the back of the net has not been a major issue for the Neroverdi (32) – only Frosinone (35) have scored more in Serie A’s bottom half – keeping things tight at the back has proved their Achilles heel. Only Frosinone (56) have conceded more goals than Sassuolo (55) in the division, and their leaky defense is yet another reason why we’re backing the Over in our Serie A betting picks.

Sassuolo fans have grown used to high-scoring defeats in recent weeks, losing 3-0 at Juventus, 4-2 at Bologna and 3-0 at Atalanta. They looked headed for a stalemate, only for Simone Berardi to snatch a win for Empoli with a goal in the 94th minute. This match would see Alessio Dionisi receive his marching orders, with the Neroverdi taking an early lead in the following match, only to end up suffering a 6-1 defeat to Napoli.

Davide Ballardini took charge on March 1, and his first match got off to an inauspicious start as Domenico Berardi – the team’s all-time leading scorer with 142 goals – was withdrawn at the hour-mark after suffering a complete lesion of the Achilles tendon that will see him miss the rest of 2024. Worse was yet to come, with Karol Swiderski coming off the bench and scoring in the 79th minute to secure a 1-0 win for Hellas Verona.

Sassuolo have lost four in a row and have taken just one point from their last eight matches, but they nevertheless enter the match as the sportsbooks’ favorites, with the Serie A betting lines backing them at +121 in contrast to Frosinone (+206). Frosinone ended a four-game losing streak on Sunday, taking the lead before the break only to concede an own goal within an hour, and sharing the spoils in a 1-1 draw vs Lecce.

Apart from that stalemate, 12 of Frosinone’s last 13 matches have featured 3+ goals. Since the start of February, they have had three matches feature 5+ goals, and there’s reason to believe that pattern will continue on Saturday at the Stadio Città del Tricolore.

With Berardi injured, expect Sassuolo to rely on Andrea Pinamonti to produce the goals up front. Prior to their recent loss to Napoli, Pinamonti had scored in each of Sassuolo’s last four home matches, and we’re backing him to grab yet another goal on home soil this weekend. If you’re planning to bet on Serie A, make sure to include Pinamonti in your player prop bets.

Questions Of The Day

Which Serie A match is likely to f eature over 2.5 goals?

Four of Sassuolo’s last six matches have featured over 2.5 goals, and we’re backing that trend to continue in a battle between the two worst defenses in Serie A.

Can Sassuolo survive relegation?

Few managers are more seasoned at escaping relegation battles than Davide Ballardini, but with Domenico Berardi sidelined, staving off the drop will be easier said than done for Sassuolo.
