The two teams ended the season on the same number of points and despite the fact that Spezia had better direct results, they will meet once again. The game will take place on a neutral ground, Mapei Stadium - Citta del Tricolore, the home of Sassuolo.

Spezia have been in Serie A for three seasons. They would have been safe had direct results against Verona been taken into account.

The team from Liguria had a disastrous end to the season, though, only winning once in the last 12 games, recording just four draws in the process.

Despite this poor form, they could consider themselves unlucky as they faced AS Roma in the final game of the season, with their opponents needing to win to qualify for the Europa League. They conceded Roma's winner in the first minute of stoppage time after matching them closely.

Spezia managed only six wins in 38 games in Serie A this season. They also recorded 13 draws, the second-highest in the league after Salernitana. They scored 31 goals and conceded 62, so had a goal difference of -31.

Hellas Verona have had a disappointing campaign compared to last season. However, they could consider themselves lucky they have a chance of survival at all.

They wouldn't even feature in this game if direct results against Spezia were taken into account, while Spezia are only here on account of that late goal they conceded against Roma. Had that game been a draw, Verona would have been sunk.

Verona's final game of the season was at AC Milan and they ran them close. They were level at 1-1 in the 85th minute but two late goals saw them succumb to a 3-1 defeat.

After 38 games, Verona had seven wins, 10 draws and 21 defeats. Only bottom side Sampdoria have lost more games than them.

This will be the third head-to-head game between the two teams this season. Spezia secured a 2-1 away win back in November, coming from behind in the process.

In the reverse fixture, in March, the game ended 0-0. Verona won both games in the 2021/22 campaign.

Spezia and Verona both scored 31 goals during the season, with the latter conceding three fewer than their rivals. With a cagey encounter expected, expect a low-scoring affair.
