SIMMONS: Maple Leafs’ Matthews, Marner named sportspersons of the year
Auston Matthews made history with his 60th goal of the season. Mitch Marner scored points in 18 straight games. They are both Maple Leafs players. They have been honoured in the past. The duo will be honoured as Toronto Sun Sportsman of Year. It was almost all Matthews and Marter in Toronto last season and this season so far. Their individual achievements are not what Maple Leaf fans want. But together, they make history. they will receive the George Gross Award. it is the same as other great individuals honoured over the last 20 years. Other great Maple Leafs honoured are: Pinball Clemons, Roy Halladay, Kyle Lowry, Joey Votto, Daniel Nestor, Jose Bautista.
