Six Nations: Garbisi omitted from Italy squad, Polledri and Minozzi return

Kieran Crowley has named his first Azzurri squad of the year ahead of 2023 Six Nations. Paolo Garbisi is out injured, Jake Polledri and Matteo Minozzi return, while the rest of squad is made up of four uncapped players. The squad will meet in Verona for a five-day camp between January 22 and 24. Italy kick off their Six-Nations campaign against France on February 5 in Rome.

Garbisi is out of the Italy squad for the Six Nations. Leonardo Marin and Gianluigi Minozzi are also absent. Tommy Allan has been named in the group despite being stretchered off the pitch in Harlequins’ loss to Sale Sharks. Giacomo Da Re is the only other fly-half in Italy's squad.

Polledri and Minozzi are returning to the Italy squad. Polledi last played for Italy during the Autumn Nations Cup in 2021. Minizzi has been playing well for Benetton since joining from Wasps.

Michele Lamaro will captain the side. Four uncapped players are in line to make their Test debuts. Italy host France and then play England in the Six Nations. The squad for those matches will be finalised after the camp in Verona.

Pietro Ceccarelli, Simone Ferrari, Danilo Fischetti, Matteo Nocera, Marco Riccioni, Luca Rizzoli, Mirco Spagnolo, Federico Zani, Giacomo Nicotera and Niccolò Cannon are the forwards. The backs are Alessandro Garbisi, Stephen Varney, Alessandre Fusco, Enrico Lucchin, Pierre Bruno, Tommaso Allan, Ange Capuozzo, Edoardo Padovani and Matteos Minozzi.
