South Africa v England LIVE commentary: Jos Buttler's side eager to avoid whitewash after disappointing ODI series away from home

England will be eager to avoid a whitewash in their ODI series against South Africa when the two meet for their third clash today.

The visitors have lost both games so far this winter and have now suffered defeat in seven of their last eight in this format, including the last five.

England set the hosts a huge total of 343 in the second ODI on Sunday thanks to Jos Buttler’s 94 not out and Harry Brook’s fine 80.

But Temba Bavuma and David Miller led South Africa to a massive win to clinch the series.

Buttler and co must now pick themselves up and ensure they don’t lose 3-0 with the 50-over World Cup in India slowly approaching.

England are the defending champions, but their form in this format is a real cause for concern, and there isn’t a lot of time for things to change.

South Africa v England third ODI: What has been said?

Buttler: “South Africa bowled really well early on, so to come back and post 340 was a fantastic effort from the guys.

“It was a terrific game and a great chase.

“There are a few mitigating circumstances, but we’re not performing as well as we’d like and that’s down to me, the coach and the players to work that out and to try to raise our level.”

Bavuma: “It is very special. Playing against England is always a tough ask.

“Your disciplines are always being tested and it is a good opportunity for us to test our way of playing.

“Chasing 340 like that will give us a lot of confidence. It was a good day and a good outing for us.”
