Team News and Game Preview

Ghana and South Korea will both be looking to get their first victory at the World Cup this year on Monday morning. Both nations remain in the hunt for a place in the next round, but only victory will keep their hopes in their own hands. There was a lot to like about Ghana’s performance in their opening fixture against Portugal, but they were narrowly defeated.

They really should have taken a point from the Portuguese. But, Inaki Williams slipped at a crucial moment in the final seconds with the goal at his mercy. Regardless, there is a real sense that this is a Ghanaian team stacked with quality across the pitch, and if they get out of the group, they could be potentially well-placed to go far.

I was slightly disappointed by South Korea in the opening round of fixtures, as they never looked to be brave enough to try and grab the win against Uruguay. Heung Min Son was one of their quieter players in that fixture, as the Spurs winger failed to make much of an impression in the final third.

They finished the match against the South Americans, having failed to register a single shot on target, but they have now kept clean sheets in their previous two games at the World Cup. But, South Korea will need to be much braver in this fixture if they are to keep their hopes of progression alive.

To Score

Andre Ayew may be a player that is coming toward the twilight years of his career, but he continues to be the man for the big occasion for his national side. The forward has scored three goals across the previous two editions of the World Cup, and we could once again see the former Swansea and West Ham player having a big part to play on Monday.

World Cup Predictions: South Korea vs Ghana

I was very impressed by Ghana and their performance in their opening fixture against Portugal. The nation boasts a lot of quality across the pitch, and this could be their golden opportunity to end a five-game winless streak at the World Cup.
