Spain's last World Cup win came in 2010. They won two European Championships between 2008 and 2012. Last year they reached the semifinals of Euro 2020. Luis Enrique's return as head coach has reinjected some of their old swagger.

Spain's form has dropped since 2012. They are considered to be slight outsiders in Qatar. A solid World Cup qualifying campaign has steadied their momentum. Their place in the 2022/23 UEFA Nations League finals has also given them a boost.

Spain begin their World Cup campaign against Costa Rica in Doha on November 23. They then face Germany in Al Khor on Nov 27 and Japan in al Rayyan on December 1.
