KANSAS CITY, Mo. —

It has been months since the Kansas City Royals announced their intentions to build a new stadium.

Not only have they not picked a site, but they're now reportedly looking at other locations.

The search has been marked by missed deadlines and shifting plans.

Initially eyeing a downtown ballpark, the Royals' options include a Clay County site and elsewhere.

But discussions with Jackson County have reportedly hit roadblocks.

"I don't think the Royals anticipated how difficult it was going to be to make this work," said Todd Leabo of 810 WHB. "Lots of layers of government, and it's just not working right now. Meanwhile, that search could take them across the state line.

Kansas City Monarchs owner Mark Brandmeyer said Kansas City, Kansas, is a viable contender for the Royals or a professional sports franchise.

"There's been talks about the Royals moving out here," Brandmeyer said. "Kansas City, Kansas, is a great place for sports. It's been a great place for the Kansas City Monarchs."

He also sees no reason why the site wouldn't work for the Royals.

"I just know that they have funds directed for bringing in sports teams," he said. "They're here as part of the sports betting package that was passed."

The Legends also has the infrastructure already in place and an entertainment district on site.

The team hopes to have a new ballpark site confirmed by January 21, the deadline for putting a sales tax extension on the April Jackson County ballot.
