Sports betting trends ahead of Super Bowl LVIII

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The Super Bowl is nearly a week away, and Red Mile in Lexington is gearing up for the big day.

They’ll be hosting a Super Bowl watch party. You can find details here.

There’s a lot of buzz around this year’s big game. Whether you’re cheering for your favorite team, watching for the halftime show, or hoping to catch a glimpse of your favorite pop star, football fans alike are tuning in.

Gabe Prewitt, Vice President of Racing and Sports Betting Operations at Red Mile, said they really opened up sports betting at the facility on the opening night of the NFL season. Now, he said it’s great to see how much has changed throughout the season.

He said he’s seen many different people come through their doors.

“We’ve got a large demographic, and it’s really a different one than we see sometimes with the historic racing machines, or racing. It’s brought a tremendously different demographic overall. It trends a little younger on the sports wagering side than what we’ve seen sometimes in other avenues,” Prewitt said. “Top to bottom, it’s a very diverse group.”

According to Covers.com, they said that a study shows that sports betting among women and on women’s sports is increasing.

Being located in a big sports town like Lexington, Gabe Prewitt expects to see more interaction continue, especially as we head toward March Madness.

“We consider ourselves an entertainment center that continues to evolve, and I think you have to have a little bit of something for everyone,” Prewitt said.

He said it’s exciting to see so many different people come to Red Mile. Prewitt said even though the facility has been there since 1875, seeing it gain momentum now is great to see.
