Spurs at Rockets, Dec. 11: Prediction, point spread, odds, best bet

As the NBA’s 2023-24 season approaches the quarter pole, the young and improving Houston Rockets (10-9) have won more games than they’ve lost. That’s clear progress for a franchise that finished last or tied for last in the Western Conference in the last three seasons.

Yet, based on results from prior years, the Rockets have frequently been underdogs or only slight favorites in many of their games. Some bettors are reluctant to fully buy in until the sample grows.

Monday, however, is an exception to that rule. Houston has won nine straight home games, and the woeful Spurs (3-18) bring a 16-game overall losing streak to Toyota Center. With that in mind, the Rockets will play from a relatively unfamiliar position as a large favorite.

If you’d like last-minute betting research, you’re in luck! We have the latest point spread, money line odds and over/under number, as well as all the information you’ll need to make the smartest bet.

Monday’s game starts at 7 p.m. Central and can be seen on the Space City Home Network and NBA League Pass.

Here’s a look at Monday’s lines:

  • Point spread: Rockets -8.5
  • Money line: Rockets -350 / Spurs +275
  • Over/under: 225.5

Spurs at Rockets injury/status report:

Houston’s Dec. 11 injury report issued lists Victor Oladipo (left patellar tendon repair) and Jock Landale (illness) as out. Dillon Brooks (illness) and Tari Eason (left lower leg soreness) are each questionable, though both played in Houston’s previous game on Friday.

Amen Thompson, Cam Whitmore, Nate Hinton and Jermaine Samuels Jr. are away from the team while playing for Houston’s NBA G League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Vipers.

The Spurs will be without Charles Bediako and Sir’Jabari Rice, while Charles Bassey, Dominick Barlow, Sidy Cissoko, and Blake Wesley are questionable. All have the G League designation listed as the reason for their absence or uncertain status.

Advice and prediction

Five of San Antonio’s last seven losses have been by single digits, and Houston is in uncharted waters as a favorite of that magnitude. We’ll take the Rockets to win but the Spurs to keep it competitive.

Prediction: Rockets 116, Spurs 109
